As rumors of a possible reunion with LeBron James floated, forward Anthony Davis’ future with the Washington Wizards seemed dicey. But Wizards general manager Will Dawkins has put those concerns to rest. Traded to the Wizards in early 2026 while dealing with an injury, Washington was expected to trade AD. Then, in late June, rumors about Davis getting traded to the Golden State Warriors began spreading after LeBron James was rumored to sign with the team as well.<\/p>\n

But the Warriors and Wizards never pulled the trigger. Dawkins confirmed that they have no intention of trading AD. In a recent interview on SiriusXM NBA Radio, Dawkins explained what Davis’ future will look like in the upcoming season.<\/p>\n

“Don’t worry too much about (the trade rumors). AD is in DC. He wants to be in DC. We’re willing to keep him there…He was out here with all of our guys… He was a big part of what we had going on , working out, leading the group workouts for our veteran players…The plan is to be big, to be strong, and to be skilled.”<\/p>\n

Davis is set to make his roster debut with the Wizards in the 2026-27 season, and as per Dawkins on the SiriusXM NBA Radio<\/a> interview, he has no plans on leaving. Last season, The Brow suffered from a complex left-hand ligament injury, which forced him to sit out the remainder of the season. <\/p>\n

According to recent reports, AD is still recovering, but is on schedule to make a full recovery before the upcoming season commences.<\/p>\n

He’s likely to be back to 100% come August, right in time for training camp. AD is entering the second season of his three-year contract. That opens the door to a long-term extension. His third-year player option lets him renegotiate with the Wizards. <\/p>\n

Warriors fans, who would be excited to see AD and James reunited, will probably face disappointment.<\/p>\n

The Reason Why the Anthony Davis Trade to the Warriors Didn’t Happen<\/p>\n

This summer, there was a narrative that LeBron James would reunite with Anthony Davis as part of the Golden State Warriors. The Warriors’ pitch to James was to bring in Davis via trade to convince him to sign with the team. This would’ve formed a superteam featuring Davis, James, Stephen Curry, and Draymond Green.<\/p>\n

While everybody believed it was going to happen, there were reports that both the Warriors and Wizards backed out of the trade. <\/p>\n

This is due to Davis’ injury tendencies. According to previous reports, the Warriors didn’t see a future with AD. If LeBron were to retire in the Bay Area, that would leave Golden State with an injury-prone player.<\/p>\n

Then there was the issue of what the Wizards wanted. The Warriors reportedly nearly gave up a plethora of draft capital to secure Davis. Upon reviewing the trade, giving up potential young talent in the future didn’t seem worth the investment for someone likely to miss several games throughout the season.<\/p>\n

With Davis now confirmed to stay in DC, he’s now set to test out a new big three featuring himself, Trae Young, and the No. 1 pick of the 2026 draft, AJ Dybantsa. <\/p>\n

The trio seems promising, especially with Dybantsa in the mix.
