Anthony Davis says they’ve ‘had some conversations.’

The Washington Wizards may have a chance to pull off the NBA’s most stunning move of the summer: reuniting LeBron James with his former Los Angeles Lakers teammate, Anthony Davis.

James is entering free agency for the fourth time in his legendary career and is expected to return to the Eastern Conference after spending eight seasons with the Lakers. The 41-year-old superstar’s next destination remains uncertain, with the Cleveland Cavaliers, Miami Heat, Philadelphia 76ers, and Golden State Warriors among the teams considered possible landing spots.

But according to Davis, Washington hasn’t been ruled out.

Speaking with Chase Coburn at Fanatics Fest in New York City on Friday, Davis was asked whether LeBron could eventually join him in Washington. His answer was brief, but certainly attention-grabbing.

“Maybe,” Davis said. “We had some conversations.”

Anthony Davis talks about LeBron James potentially joining Wizards

James and Davis formed one of the NBA’s premier duos during their six seasons together with the Lakers, winning the 2020 NBA championship. Davis has made no secret of his admiration for James over the years, and they have remained close despite Davis being traded to the Dallas Mavericks in a blockbuster 2025 deal that also involved Luka Doncic.

King James has also spoken very positively of the young core that the Wizards have assembled around Davis and fellow star Trae Young. In addition to recent first-round picks Alex Sarr, Kyshawn George, Will Riley, and Tre Johnson, the Wizards selected AJ Dybantsa with the number-one overall selection in the 2026 NBA Draft last month.

When asked what he thought of what Washington was building, even before they had drafted Dybantsa, James spoke with keen interest in how they would perform moving forward.

“I’m very intrigued, and I’m very interested to see what happens and how this all comes about, obviously next year,” he told fellow NBA legend Steve Nash in February. “I’m interested to see what they do and how it all comes together. With AD, obviously, we know the talent level is out of this world. And Trae with his ability to play the pick-and-roll game, his ability to shoot the ball, his lob threat.”

James is also friendly with Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin, who, like James, is still playing at an elite level in his 40s. The two sports’ greatest scorers shared a moment courtside this past January and swapped jerseys when the Lakers visited Capital One Arena.

“How do I feel about free agency? Obviously, it’s a big decision,” James said Thursday. “This is the [fourth] time in my career that I’ve been a free agent. So, it’s a big decision for not only myself, but for my family as well, just for the last part of my career, and where I want to spend the last few years.

“Wherever I go, I will make my staple on just, I’m a natural-born leader. I am going to try to fit in with whatever team I go to, but also give them all the tools and give them all the knowledge that I’ve been able to grasp over the last 23 years. I know the game. I know the ins and outs about the game of basketball.”

Even in the twilight of his career, James has remained a dominant force in the NBA. This past year, in his second season as teammates with his son, Bronny James, the 4-time NBA MVP averaged 20.9 points, 7.2 assists, and 6.1 rebounds per game. He was named an All-Star for the 22nd time.

Outside of any Lebron-related topics, Davis also stopped to answer a few questions from Instagram content creator @moreemyles, sharing that he believes Dybantsa will win NBA Rookie of the Year, that the Wizards will win 40-plus games, and that he will feature in all 82 games of the season.

The latter statement is perhaps the most unlikely of the three, as Davis has been plagued by injuries nearly every season of his 14-year NBA career. He has never played a full 82-game schedule and has only featured in more than 70 games three times in his career. He played in just 20 games this past year due to significant ligament damage in his left hand.

The Wizards, who have made the playoffs just once over the past eight seasons, will look to return to the postseason this year. They would certainly be favorites to make a deep run if they also added LeBron to their roster.

The Washington Wizards may have a chance to pull off the NBA’s most stunning move of the summer:…

[3780
7,6,682,468,3892,683
post-790003","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-washington-wizards","tag-basketball","tag-nba","tag-washington","tag-washington-wizards","tag-washingtonwizards","tag-wizards
["GET
