Look at every single team in the Eastern Conference. Almost every one made a significant change to their roster this summer. Whether it was to get better, get worse, or restructure, the East was a conference of change.<\/p>\n
Let\u2019s work our way down the standings, skipping over a few of the teams.<\/p>\n
Celtics: Traded Jaylen Brown in order to restructure their team for the future (at least, that was their explanation for the widely criticized move).<\/p>\n
Raptors: Traded for Kawhi Leonard (in theory, I guess).<\/p>\n
Hawks: Traded for Lu Dort to bolster their defensive depth.<\/p>\n
76ers: Traded for Jaylen Brown and signed LeBron James, Anfernee Simons, and Dean Wade. Yeah, that\u2019s a big change for you.<\/p>\n
Hornets: Traded LaMelo Ball for Naz Reid and re-signed Coby White.<\/p>\n
Heat: Traded for Giannis Antetokounmpo.<\/p>\n
Bucks: Traded Giannis Antetokounmpo.<\/p>\n
Bulls: Signed Norman Powell and traded for Nicolas Claxton. (And drafted Caleb Wilson).<\/p>\n
Nets: Traded for Julius Randle and shipped out Claxton.<\/p>\n
Pacers: Signed Kelly Oubre Jr. and will be getting a healthy Tyrese Haliburton (they are excused).<\/p>\n
Wizards: Extended Trae Young, signed Khris Middleton, and drafted AJ Dybantsa.<\/p>\n
Look at all those changes. The Pacers get a pass because their big offseason addition will be getting back Haliburton, who led them to a Finals appearance a year ago.<\/p>\n
So, who didn\u2019t I name? The Knicks, Cavaliers, Magic, and Pistons.<\/p>\n
The Knicks get a pass because\u2026 well\u2026 they won a title. They didn\u2019t have to do anything, and even they re-signed their core and brought in Andre Drummond.<\/p>\n
The Cavaliers, Magic, and Pistons have no excuses. But the Pistons are the worst of the bunch.<\/p>\n
At least the Magic can convince themselves that Paolo Banchero and Franz Wagner can be healthy next year. At least the Cavaliers extended Donovan Mitchell and were in the race for James (so they can now makeThe Detroit Pistons are moving in the wrong direction.
