The Golden State Warriors<\/a> are under the microscope after a disappointing offseason that has left many questioning the team’s direction. It has been a difficult summer after missing out on LeBron James, who joined the Philadelphia 76ers<\/a>, and failing to add the type of star power that other contenders have.<\/p>\n

The Warriors have not made any major additions since pursuing James, which has raised questions about the organization’s plans moving forward. Instead, Golden State has focused on bringing back familiar faces who have recently been part of the franchise.<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cThe Warriors are officially running it back despite missing the playoffs last season. Golden State re-signed Draymond Green, Kristaps Porzingis, Al Horford, De\u2019Anthony Melton, and Gary Payton II this summer,\u201d NBA writer Jake Weinbach posted.<\/p>\n

Many Steph Curry fans are frustrated with how the final years of his career are unfolding from a championship perspective. ESPN\u2019s Kendrick Perkins even suggested that Curry should begin thinking about his future away from Golden State.<\/p>\n

\u201cSteph needs to be planning his exit strategy from the Golden State Warriors,” said Perkins on ‘NBA Today’<\/a>. “Think about it, over the last four years, the Warriors have been in the play-in tournament. And this year, the way that the West is stacked up, they’re gonna be a play-in tournament team again. You can’t waste any more time hoping and banking that Mike Dunleavy is gonna get it right or is gonna make the moves that are needed to make sure that you can compete for a title, especially in a tough Western Conference.\u201d<\/p>\n

Despite the criticism, the Warriors still have opportunities to add young talent and build around Curry. SI\u2019s Joey Akeley believes Golden State could make a major move by acquiring Trey Murphy III.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnother reason Murphy has so much value is his height (6’8″) and athleticism suggest he can make a defensive leap. Mind you, there’s no guarantee he becomes a dominant defensive player. He’s already 26 and hasn’t been great on that end yet. But if it clicks for him, you could have the next great two-way wing playing alongside Curry. That’s been a recipe for championship-level success in the past,\u201d Akeley wrote.<\/a><\/p>\n

Murphy has continued to develop his game since entering the NBA. He is one of the league’s better catch-and-shoot threats, which could make him a dangerous fit in an offense featuring Curry. His ability to space the floor would create even more opportunities for Golden State’s offense.<\/p>\n

Murphy is currently signed to a $112 million contract with the New Orleans Pelicans.<\/a> Adding him would not only give the Warriors another talented piece for their current roster but also provide them with a potential cornerstone as they eventually transition into the post-Curry era.<\/p>\n
