{"id":804835,"date":"2026-08-06T04:18:15","date_gmt":"2026-08-06T04:18:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nba\/804835\/"},"modified":"2026-08-06T04:18:15","modified_gmt":"2026-08-06T04:18:15","slug":"notable-update-surfaces-on-domantas-sabonis-future","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nba\/804835\/","title":{"rendered":"Notable update surfaces on Domantas Sabonis&#8217; future"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">De\u2019Aaron Fox may be long gone, but his ex-Sacramento Kings<a class=\"maisdio-link\" href=\"#\" data-sport=\"nba\" data-team=\"20000030\" data-name=\"Sacramento Kings\" data-track-content=\"\" data-content-name=\"mai-sportsdataio-link\" data-content-piece=\"Sacramento Kings\"><\/a> co-star still seems to be committed to the team.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Kings big man Domantas Sabonis<a class=\"maisdio-link\" href=\"#\" data-sport=\"nba\" data-athlete=\"20001683\" data-name=\"Domantas Sabonis\" data-track-content=\"\" data-content-name=\"mai-sportsdataio-link\" data-content-piece=\"Domantas Sabonis\"><\/a> will remain with the franchise this season and has expressed a willingness to recommit and buy-in to the team, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nba\/story\/_\/id\/49523916\/darius-acuff-jr-sacramento-kings-future-manage-present-lavine-sabonis\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Anthony Slater of ESPN reported Wednesday<\/a>. Slater notes that Sacramento did explore the possibility of moving Sabonis both at the February trade deadline and around the time of the NBA Draft, but no deal ultimately materialized.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Additionally, Sabonis became eligible for a new contract extension last month, but that reportedly is not being explored by the Kings at the moment. You can read Slater\u2019s full report on the situation <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nba\/story\/_\/id\/49523916\/darius-acuff-jr-sacramento-kings-future-manage-present-lavine-sabonis\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sabonis, 30, has been with Sacramento since 2022 and has made two All-NBA teams and one-All Star appearance as a King in addition to leading the league in rebounding three times. The 6-foot-10 Sabonis was also a bedrock of the 2022-23 Sacramento team that won 48 games and the Pacific Division to earn the franchise\u2019s first playoff berth since way back in 2006.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But it has all been downhill for the Kings ever since then with now back-to-back losing seasons, including a 22-60 disaster in 2025-26. While Sabonis did average 15.8 points and 11.4 rebounds for Sacramento last season, he only made 19 total appearances due to a partial meniscus tear that required surgery.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sabonis still has two years and $94 million left on his contract with the Kings.
