Mandatory Credit: Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports | USA TODAY Sports<\/p>\n Vucevic is back in Orlando, but his role will look drastically different than the first time around.<\/p>\n After Orlando’s front office convinced Jonathan Isaac to renegotiate his contract, the Magic were able to carve up enough cap space to retain Jevon Carter and add one more free agent to the mix; once Vucevic to Orlando had interest on both sides, the two were quick to rekindle the old flame.<\/p>\n Depending how new head coach Sean Sweeney<\/a> uses him will ultimately determine his role; he could be used as an offense-to-Goga-Bitadze’s-defense option, he could fill in for Wendell Carter Jr. <\/a>when needed due to injury or matchup, and he may even win out eventually as the first big off the bench.<\/p>\n Orlando’s longtime broadcaster David Steele could not be happier for Vucevic and the Magic reuniting: (via Learning Basketball)<\/p>\n I love it, I love it.<\/p>\n I could not love it any more than I do.<\/p>\n He is such a great guy, one of my All-Time favorite players, just a genuine good human being, and really good basketball player.<\/p>\n I think he has got some good years left, I do. Mandatory Credit: Mike Watters-Imagn Images | IMAGN IMAGES via Reuters Connect<\/p>\n Vooch’s ideal offensive role for this Magic team in 2026-27 could share some similarities to his later seasons under coach Clifford, only with drastically less usage:<\/p>\n Hit open catch-and-shoot shots, extend the midrange to 3pt line consistently Vooch’s ideal defensive role, however, is still to be determined.<\/p>\n He showed he can play drop coverage on an elite defense next to the Jonathan Isaac\/Aaron Gordon frontline under Clifford; that is one role he may still be used effectively in if flanked with Orlando’s current elite defenders, which still includes Isaac and now offers Franz Wagner, Anthony Black, Jalen Suggs, Wendell Carter Jr., Goga Bitadze, Desmond Bane, Paolo Banchero, Noah Penda, and rookie Izaiyah Nelson. Coach Sweeney should be able to build workable lineups with Vucevic for drop defense coverage when needed; the problem is that drop defense has become outdated against point guards who can hit pull-up threes, which is just about every point guard in the league.<\/p>\n The one big question mark for Vucevic’s return is how Sweeney will keep him on the floor defensively if he also plans to employ the aggressive, effective switching defense he praises<\/a>. Vooch’s best bet in this switching scheme seems to be if he’s flanked with Orlando’s elite versatile defenders like Franz and Suggs plus another 4\/5 like Wendell, Isaac, or Paolo; maybe Sweeney finds a way to keep Vooch hanging back to guard the rim while everyone else switches frenetically on the perimeter.<\/p>\n In the regular season, Vooch will be much easier to hide on defense, especially over the aggregate of beating up opposing bench units; the playoffs, however, are another challenge entirely.<\/p>\n Maybe that’s asking too much of the veteran big who should help in other ways as a connective 3pt scoring punch and rebounding machine 9th man; yet this is still a question that this playoff team will need to solve by playoff time \u2013 how many of Orlando’s bigs can survive a postseason series?<\/p>\n If Orlando stays healthy, finding lineups involving Vooh with positive net ratings and two-way versatility will be more doable, especially in the regular season. The upside bet here is Orlando striking gold with a 5-out lineup that unlocks this team’s floor spacing if Vucevic can somehow find a flamethrower of a hot hand from deep, which practice reps and in-game opportunity can achieve.<\/p>\n Still, Magic fans generally couldn’t be happier to see this familiar face return to Orlando for one more ride.<\/p>\n Vucevic has the opportunity to further etch his name into the Magic’s franchise record books, to play meaningful games for a playoff team in a city he and his family adores, and to maybe even bookend his career with a storybook ending if he helps deliver a title to the city that believed in him most.<\/p>\n Next time Magic fans hear “Ooo’s” from the concession stand, they’ll know the crowd probably isn’t booing anyone, just once again cheering “Vooooooch!” in unison after he splashes one from deep.<\/p>\n![\"Vucevic](\"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nba\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/01kzvrw013wsqrqqn9pm.jpg\" "\\"Vucevic")
