Mike D\u2019Antoni was inducted into the Hall of Fame this weekend as part of the 2026 class<\/a>. He knows that the primary reason he is getting in is the philosophical change in the league that he helped usher in when he brought the \u201cSeven Seconds or Less\u201d philosophy over from his coaching days in Italy, ESPN\u2019s Dave McMenamin writes<\/a>.<\/p>\n

While D\u2019Antoni\u2019s Suns\u2019 up-and-down, free-flowing offense influenced the way that teams play today, he still regrets that he didn\u2019t push the style even further, closer to what it has become today.<\/p>\n

\u201cBecause we were first to go through the door, first of all, you take a lot of bullets. And \u2026 it makes you hesitate. We didn\u2019t go as far as we could have pushed the envelope back then because we didn\u2019t know,\u201d he said. \u201cWe\u2019d shoot 30-something 3s and we\u2019re going, \u2018Is that too many? Can we do that?\u2019 While other people were saying, \u2018You can\u2019t win that way.\u2019 And so instead of going, just revving it up like they do today and going after it \u2026 we just didn\u2019t quite maximize what we could have done.\u201d<\/p>\n
