It will be a one-year contract, agent Jerry Dianis confirms to ESPN\u2019s Shams Charania (<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/ShamsCharania\/status\/2089365249832972755\" rel=\"nofollow\">Twitter link<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nba\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/Haywood-Highsmith-Suns-199x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"199\" height=\"300\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-487370 alignright\"  \/>The veteran forward was <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hoopsrumors.com\/2026\/08\/suns-waive-haywood-highsmith.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">waived<\/a> last Wednesday after spending just a few months with the team, and he became a free agent after clearing waivers on Friday. He held a $1MM guarantee on his $3MM contract for the upcoming season.<\/p>\n<p>Highsmith missed most of last season after undergoing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hoopsrumors.com\/2025\/08\/heats-highsmith-undergoes-knee-surgery-out-8-10-weeks.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">surgery<\/a> on a torn meniscus in his right knee last August and suffering a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hoopsrumors.com\/2025\/10\/haywood-highsmith-to-be-re-evaluated-in-eight-weeks.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">setback<\/a> in his rehab in October. He signed a two-year, minimum-salary contract with Phoenix in February and appeared in seven regular season games and two playoff contests.<\/p>\n<p>Highsmith is likely getting another minimum-salary deal, which would pay him $3.1MM and carry a cap hit of $2.45MM. The details of his new deal aren\u2019t yet known, but if it\u2019s non-guaranteed and includes <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hoopsrumors.com\/2026\/08\/hoops-rumors-glossary-exhibit-9-contract-3.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Exhibit 9<\/a> language, it won\u2019t count against the salary cap unless he makes the regular season roster.<\/p>\n<p>Highsmith was an effective three-and-D rotation player and a part-time starter during his four years in Miami. He averaged 6.3 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 1.3 assists in 22.7 minutes per game during his final two seasons with the Heat from 2023-25.
