UPI<\/p>\n<p>Though Kroenke is a native of nearby Columbia, Missouri, he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/news\/early-lead\/wp\/2016\/01\/14\/who-is-rams-owner-stan-kroenke-besides-the-most-hated-man-in-st-louis\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">would become the \u201cmost hated man in St. Louis\u201d<\/a> over the next half-decade, as a stadium dispute eventually led him to move the Rams back to Los Angeles for the 2016 season.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the messy move, the Rams quickly found success after returning to the West Coast.<\/p>\n<p>They made the playoffs for the first time in more than a decade in 2017, then reached their first Super Bowl since 2001 the following season. They\u2019ve had the same president (Kevin Demoff) and GM (Les Snead) who made the move from St. Louis. They\u2019ve had Sean McVay as head coach since 2017.<\/p>\n<p>This season, <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/07\/27\/sports\/for-rams-super-bowl-isnt-everything-its-the-only-thing\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the team is a Super Bowl contender again<\/a>, led by quarterback Matthew Stafford, marquee offseason acquisition Myles Garrett and <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/08\/30\/sports\/aaron-donald-return-boosts-rams-super-bowl-odds-individual-props\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the return of franchise icon Aaron Donald from retirement<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>According to Forbes, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/nfl-valuations\/list\/;\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the Rams are now the second-most valuable franchise in the NFL<\/a>, trailing only the Dallas Cowboys with a $10.5 billion estimated valuation.<\/p>\n<p>Nuggets\/Avalanche<\/p>\n<p>As a principal owner, Kroenke\u2019s first sports endeavors came in Colorado, where he bought the Nuggets and Avalanche (as well as the arena they both play in) in 2000.<\/p>\n<p>Kroenke experienced immediate success with the hockey team, which won the Stanley Cup during his first season of ownership in 2000-01. \u201cUnbelievable year,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nhl\/playoffs2001\/frei06011.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">he quipped in the locker room celebration that season<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Two decades (and 26 combined playoff appearances from the two teams) later, he would experience another unbelievable 12-month stretch in Denver when the Avalanche won another Stanley Cup in 2022 and the Nuggets won their first NBA championship in 2023.<\/p>\n<p>Denver Nuggets owner Stan Kroenke lifts the Larry O\u2019Brien Trophy after the Nuggets won the 2023 NBA Championship against the Miami Heat on Monday, June 12, 2023, at Ball Arena in Denver, Colorado. USA TODAY Sports via Reuters Con<\/p>\n<p>Technically, ownership of both franchises was transferred in 2015 to his wife, Ann Walton Kroenke, an heiress to the Walmart fortune who has been married to Kroenke since 1974 and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/profile\/ann-walton-kroenke\/?sh=4fa961c43785\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">is herself worth an estimated $14 billion<\/a>, according to Forbes.<\/p>\n<p>That move was made <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bizjournals.com\/denver\/news\/2015\/10\/07\/nfl-owners-let-kroenke-keep-rams-transfer-nuggets.html?iana=ind_sports\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">to appease NFL ownership rules<\/a> (regarding owners controlling major professional sports teams in markets other than their NFL franchises) stemming from Kroenke\u2019s takeover of the Rams.<\/p>\n<p>Under the umbrella of Kroenke Sports &amp; Entertainment, both clubs (along with the Colorado Rapids of Major League Soccer) are now <a href=\"http:\/\/www.denverpost.com\/nuggets\/ci_17865859\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">under the direction of Kroenke\u2019s son, Josh<\/a>, who is vice-president of the sports holding company.<\/p>\n<p>Both teams also remain title contenders currently, having been built around homegrown superstars Nikola Jokic and Nathan MacKinnon.<\/p>\n<p>Arsenal<\/p>\n<p>Kroenke\u2019s most recent sports triumph came overseas, where Arsenal are the reigning champions of the English Premier League.<\/p>\n<p>Arsenal\u2019s Martin Odegaard lifts the trophy as he celebrates with teammates after winning the Premier League at Selhurst Park in London, Britain, on Sunday, May 24, 2026. Action Images via Reuters<\/p>\n<p>Kroenke acquired a controlling interest in the North London soccer team in 2011, and watched the team win England\u2019s domestic FA Cup four times by the end of the decade. However, it wasn\u2019t until last season that <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/05\/18\/sports\/arsenal-one-step-away-from-ending-22-year-premier-league-title-drought\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the Gunners ended a two-plus-decade-long championship drought<\/a> in the Premier League, doing so in the same season <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/05\/30\/sports\/psg-defeats-arsenal-in-shootout-to-seal-second-straight-champions-league-title\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">they reached the UEFA Champions League final for only the second time in club history<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Kroenke\u2019s ownership did come under scrutiny in 2021, after Arsenal became one of six English teams that agreed to join a so-called \u201cSuper League\u201d with other top European clubs. Even after plans for that league fell through, and Arsenal withdrew itself amid fan backlash, <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/ap-top-news-entertainment-soccer-stan-kroenke-europe-1191f618dadf47862f2826f66a33684a\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">there were still calls from supporters for Kroenke to sell the team<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Now, however, Arsenal is back on the upswing, looking to defend its Premier League title and make another run in the Champions League.
