{"id":826174,"date":"2026-09-02T08:36:23","date_gmt":"2026-09-02T08:36:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nba\/826174\/"},"modified":"2026-09-02T08:36:23","modified_gmt":"2026-09-02T08:36:23","slug":"hornets-sign-trey-townsend-waive-josiah-allick","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nba\/826174\/","title":{"rendered":"Hornets Sign Trey Townsend, Waive Josiah Allick"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Hornets have made a minor change at the back of their roster, announcing today that they\u2019ve signed free agent forward <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/gleague\/players\/t\/townstr01d.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Trey Townsend<\/a> and waived forward <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/gleague\/players\/a\/allicjo01d.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Josiah Allick<\/a> (<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/HornetsPR\/status\/2094834670399840572\" rel=\"nofollow\">Twitter<\/a> <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/HornetsPR\/status\/2094833397973615101\" rel=\"nofollow\">links<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>Charlotte just <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hoopsrumors.com\/2026\/08\/hornets-sign-josiah-allick-to-exhibit-10-contract.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">signed<\/a> Allick on Monday, using the lone open spot on its 21-man offseason roster to complete the deal. It appears the team will use that spot to rotate players on and off the roster ahead of training camp, either to secure their G League rights or to ensure that they\u2019ll be in line for Exhibit 10 bonuses if they\u2019re cut and then spend at least 60 days with the Greensboro Swarm in the G League \u2014 or both.<\/p>\n<p>Townsend, a 6\u20196\u2033 forward who went undrafted out of Arizona in 2025, had a busy year in 2025\/26, spending time with the K\u00f6ping Stars in Sweden, the Texas Legends and Salt Lake City Stars in the G League, and the Saskatoon Mamba in Canada. In 24 NBAGL outings for Utah\u2019s and Dallas\u2019 affiliates, Townsend averaged 4.6 points and 2.2 rebounds in 18.7 minutes per game.<\/p>\n<p>Rod Boone of The Charlotte Observer (<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/rodboone\/status\/2094835047467561013\" rel=\"nofollow\">Twitter link<\/a>) confirms that Townsend received a non-guaranteed <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hoopsrumors.com\/2025\/07\/hoops-rumors-glossary-exhibit-10-contract-4.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Exhibit 10 contract<\/a>, so it\u2019s a safe bet that he\u2019ll be waived before the season \u2013 maybe even later this week \u2013 and will report to the Greensboro Swarm in order to earn a bonus worth up to $91K.
