The Philadelphia 76ers will be the biggest team to watch entering the new NBA season, having beaten the Golden State Warriors and other rival suitors to LeBron James, while also making a blockbuster trade for former Finals MVP Jaylen Brown.<\/p>\n
How the 76ers manage their talent-laden roster is going to be fascinating, particularly when it comes to Brown who already faces the prospect of a diminished role. That certainly wouldn’t have been the case at the Warriors who reportedly held discussions with the Boston Celtics over a trade for the 29-year-old forward.<\/p>\n

Brown is coming off a career-best year in his final season with the Celtics, averaging 28.7 points, 6.9 rebounds and 5.1 assists which saw him finish sixth in MVP voting while being named to the All-NBA Second Team.<\/p>\n
Yet despite these numbers and accomplishments, Brown faces the very real likelihood of being the fourth offensive option on some nights for Philadelphia, such is the now overwhelming and unfair talent on the roster.<\/p>\n
Between Tyrese Maxey, Joel Embiid and James, there’s a question mark on where Brown fits in on nights where the 76ers are fully healthy, particularly when he’s not necessarily known for being an off-ball catch-and-shoot threat after hitting 32.4% and 34.7% from 3-point range over the past two seasons.<\/p>\n
Part of the issue the Celtics faced, and undoubtedly one of the reasons they traded Brown, was the prospect of asking him to move back into a secondary role behind Jayson Tatum after taking primary offensive responsibility during his now former teammate’s recovery from a torn achilles.<\/p>\n

While Brown has the opportunity to be part of another championship-contending team, a move to the Warriors would have given him a far more defined offensive role alongside two-time MVP Stephen Curry.<\/p>\n
There’d be plenty of times during the regular season where Brown would have been Golden State’s number one option, with the 38-year-old Curry still looking to manage the knee injury that saw him miss 27-straight games toward the end of last campaign.<\/p>\n
