While the Trail Blazers may have an over-abundance of ball-handling options, the Warriors have a void in that area and particularly while six-time All-Star Jimmy Butler remains sidelined by injury. That ultimately led to the Williams signing<\/a>, though the fact he had to wait nearly two months for a deal in free agency raises questions over whether he’s truly the answer.<\/p>\n Henderson would be an intriguing solution in this regard. He’s talented enough to buy into the idea that he can still become a long-term starting point guard, yet hasn’t proven enough where you’d necessarily have to pay him as such on his rookie extension.<\/p>\n Scoot Henderson may be worthy gamble as Warriors’ backup point guard<\/p>\n The other positive is that Golden State wouldn’t be relying on Henderson to be their starting point guard, but there would be enough opportunity to keep him content and more importantly allow him to develop into the player many envisioned when he entered the league.<\/p>\n Henderson averaged 14.2 points and 3.7 assists in less than 25 minutes per game last season, proving he’s a productive player when given opportunity. Considering that Stephen Curry is 38-years-old and still managing a lingering knee issue, there would be room for Henderson to play considerable minutes and scale up to a major starting role when the two-time MVP is injured or resting.<\/p>\n Henderson is making $13.6 million on the final year of his rookie contract, meaning the Warriors would have to structure a package around Moses Moody, an additional smaller salary and draft capital.<\/p>\n
