The Dallas Mavericks<\/a> ended up hiring Michigan\u2019s Dusty May as their new head coach, but Duke\u2019s Jon Scheyer was a name linked to the opening. <\/p>\n

On Thursday, Scheyer addressed those rumors publicly, and in doing so, he made a strong commitment to the Duke program. <\/p>\n

\u201cI know I\u2019m right where I\u2019m supposed to be. Not many people can get their dream job at 33. I\u2019m in this for the long haul with Duke.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Mavericks parted ways with Kidd in May,<\/a> and it came after five seasons and one NBA Finals trip. <\/p>\n

The Mavericks reportedly had interest in Scheyer<\/a>, but ultimately, they hired May in a stunning surprise<\/a>. The move came just months after Michigan won the NCAA Tournament. Ultimately, the uncertainty around college athletics and the opportunity to coach Cooper Flagg<\/a> were two big driving forces for May to make the move. <\/a><\/p>\n

Scheyer replaced legendary Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski. Scheyer has a 124\u201325 record in four seasons, which includes three Elite Eight trips and a Final Four appearance, so Duke fans were more than happy<\/a> with him staying in Durham, N.C. <\/p>\n
