\u201cInternally, it\u2019s going to be on how the [young Nets] develop, right?\u201d Marks said. \u201cWhether it\u2019s Egor [D\u00ebmin], whether it\u2019s Nolan [Traore] \u2026 it runs the gamut, across the whole lot of them. Who can take that next step? And we\u2019ll get a good feel for, \u2018OK, he\u2019s playing above where expectations were,\u2019 or, \u2018He\u2019s developed earlier than we may have thought.\u2019 But it\u2019s also a combination of what becomes available.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cSo you keep your flexibility. \u2026 We\u2019re always listening. I\u2019m not sure we\u2019re going to be any more active than we\u2019ve been in the past, but it doesn\u2019t mean we\u2019re not listening. It doesn\u2019t mean we\u2019re not shaking trees and seeing what\u2019s out there, for sure. So a lot will be predicated first and foremost on what this roster looks like, and we\u2019ll get a good feel for that pretty good.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Of those aforementioned youngsters, rookie Mikel Brown Jr. rolled his left ankle last week but is recovering and back out on the court on a limited basis.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cYeah, I\u2019m doing everything possible to get back on the floor,\u201d Brown said. \u201cI\u2019m back on the floor shooting and moving around a little bit. It\u2019s coming along well. I\u2019ve progressed very fast. We\u2019re just attacking it. We\u2019re attacking the rehab and taking it a day at a time.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Traore and Grant Nelson are both cleared to start camp after they missed Summer League, the former fully recovered from a right knee procedure and the latter back from a postseason knee procedure and early leg woes.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Traore looked visibly more muscular from last season.\u00a0<\/p>\n
After the arrival of All-Star Julius Randle, Noah Clowney \u2014 who started 60 games last season \u2014 is going to lose shots and minutes. But he knows the path to preserving what playing time he can.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cTo be honest, be a better defender,\u201d Clowney said. \u201cYou bring in more people who are going to have the ball on the offensive end\u2026 so you want to get the minutes, [I\u2019ll get less shots], that\u2019s the reality. So guarding, making the shots when they come, not forcing, keeping the offense flowing, simple stuff.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cRoles are going to change \u2014 that\u2019s a given. I\u2019m probably not going to shoot as many shots as I shot last year. We all know that. But shoot better shots, keep the offense going. When your opportunity comes, make the most of it.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Josh Minott said he understood his role will change, running less offense but being a disruptor.\u00a0<\/p>\n
