Last season, Jayson Tatum was on the outside looking in, biding his time until he was healthy and could contribute for the Celtics.

This season, the training wheels are off, and Tatum is ready to prove he can return to his dominant ways.

Tatum suffered an Achilles injury in 2025 against the Knicks. Many thought he would miss all of last season, but he returned in March. In 16 games, he averaged 21.8 points, 10.0 rebounds, 5.3 assists, and 1.4 steals per game.

It took time to return to form, but he adapted before the playoffs. Unfortunately, he didn’t play against the 76ers in Game 7 of the first-round series because of left knee stiffness.

Spending the offseason getting his body right, Tatum joined his teammates for training before the regular season. No limitations gave him some relief and a chance to regain confidence.

“Just going into the offseason knowing that I had the whole summer to get my body right and get the rhythm of playing basketball again, I feel so much more confident from a mental standpoint and physically than I did last March,” Tatum said via The Boston Globe.

“That’s how it should be. It’s a long journey from the injury I had, and I feel great.”

The 28-year-old six-time All-Star enters his 10th NBA season. He is now the de facto leader of the Celtics after Jaylen Brown got traded to the 76ers. There are new teammates he has to form chemistry with. Luckily, he has a full season to do so.

Tatum enters training camp motivated and ready to prove that, when healthy after a rough year, he’s as dangerous as ever.
