Damian Lillard scored 25 points and made six 3-pointers in his first game back in a Portland uniform. Deni Avdija\u2019s sore ankle didn\u2019t stop him from recording a double-double. New owner Tom Dundon watched from the building as Rip City celebrated the end of a turbulent offseason with a 41-point win. Now the Blazers have to show they can win on the road. Friday\u2019s game at Sacramento (7:00 PM PT, Rip City Sports Network) starts a two-game California trip that ends against Luka Doncic and the Lakers in Portland\u2019s first national TV game of the season.<\/p>\n

The Kings look like a good place to keep the momentum going. Sacramento opened its season with a 121-96 loss to the Clippers in which a third-quarter Los Angeles run broke open a close game, a familiar problem from last season. Zach LaVine led the Kings with 28 points, and Domantas Sabonis had 14 points, 18 rebounds and eight assists without missing a shot. Rookie Darius Acuff Jr. went 5 for 24, and Keegan Murray scored two points on 1-of-8 shooting in the first game of his five-year, $140 million deal. Outright Win Probability: Trail Blazers (72.6% Model Probability). The models make Portland a clear favorite, giving it a 72.6% chance to start 2-0. The opening-night blowout has driven the price too high, though. DraftKings\u2019 -305<\/a> needs a 75.3% win rate, nearly three points above the model. Sacramento at +245 needs 29.0% against a 27.4% model probability, so the upset doesn\u2019t offer value either. The moneyline is a pass on both sides.<\/p>\n

Point Spread Angle: The Line Has Moved Past the Model. The simulations project a 120-113 Portland win, a seven-point margin. The model page\u2019s -6.5 line had Portland covering at 51.4%, almost exactly fair. After a 41-point win and 94% of bets on the Blazers, DraftKings is now at -7.5, a full point past the model\u2019s number. At -7.5, the projected seven-point win would be a Kings cover, so the model leans slightly toward Sacramento +7.5. The edge is thin. Blazers fans who want to back Portland should know they\u2019re laying a point more than the model thinks the game is worth.<\/p>\n

Total Points Angle: Lean Over 232.5 (-108). The model projects 233 combined points, half a point above the DraftKings total, and the Over is the cheaper side at -108. Portland\u2019s four projected 19-plus scorers (Avdija, Morant, Lillard and Holiday) help the Over. The risk is a repeat of Wednesday, when the Blazers\u2019 defense held Phoenix to 83 points. This is a lean, not a strong play.<\/p>\n

Featured Angle: Portland\u2019s Big Four. The model expects another big night from Portland\u2019s top four. Avdija is projected for 26 points, six rebounds and eight assists, near triple-double territory. Morant is projected for 25 points and seven assists, Lillard for 23 points and Holiday for 19 points. That\u2019s 93 combined points from four players. Sacramento\u2019s projected top scorer, LaVine, is at 20. Player props are where Blazers fans are most likely to find value, especially Avdija\u2019s assists and Morant\u2019s points if those lines trail the projections.<\/p>\n

Portland\u2019s opener was a statement, and the 10,000 computer simulations expect the Blazers to win again, projecting a 120-113 result in Sacramento. The betting market has caught up to them after one game, though. At -7.5 and -305, there\u2019s little value left on Portland. The model\u2019s leans are Kings +7.5 and Over 232.5 (-108), both small. The better approach for Blazers fans is player props tied to Avdija and Morant.<\/p>\n
