The Dallas Mavericks, San Antonio Spurs, and Philadelphia 76ers shocked the world at the NBA Draft Lottery and will pick first, second, and third. The general consensus is that Cooper Flagg and Dylan Harper will be the first two players off the board, and the Sixers will take whoever they deem the best player available.<\/p>\n

The Sixers have talented guards in Jared McCain, Tyrese Maxey, and Quentin Grimes, although they lack a true floor general. There were reports that the Spurs might pass on Harper, since they already have Stephon Castle and De’Aaron Fox, and the Sixers might try to trade up.<\/p>\n

Unless the Sixers are willing to give up Maxey in a deal, then they don’t have the capital to pick both second and third, so the Spurs would move back a spot, similarly to how the Boston Celtics gave up the rights to Markelle Fultz for Jayson Tatum.<\/p>\n

In theory, the Spurs could add the third pick, a 2028 pick from the LA Clippers, and a 2029 pick swap via the Clippers for the second pick. While fans seem happy with the prospect of adding Harper into the fold in San Antonio, if the Spurs wanted to pursue other players, trading back one spot to add even more future draft capital makes sense.<\/p>\n

There are plenty of talented players the Spurs could select aside from Harper<\/a>.<\/p>\n

While none of them are as talented as Harper is, the fit next to Fox, Castle, and Victor Wembanyama would be much better, allowing the Spurs to compete next season and hit the ground running.<\/p>\n
