San Francisco selected Stribling with the first pick of the second round of the 2026 NFL Draft, its first overall selection.
Stribling’s setback is the 49ers’ latest significant injury, just as they were getting healthier.
Ricky Pearsall is already out for the season, having undergone knee surgery in August. Defensive tackle Alfred Collins tore his patellar tendon during practice in Australia, and tight end Jake Tonges left the Rams game with a knee injury. George Kittle and Nick Bosa just returned to game action this week from their 2025 season-ending injuries.
Without the rookie in Brock Purdy‘s receiving corps, Demarcus Robinson, Deebo Samuel and Jacob Cowing are slated for more action than expected early on. Newcomer Mike Evans led all 49ers wideouts with 48 snaps against L.A., followed by Robinson (40) and Samuel (26).
San Francisco (1-0) hosts the Dolphins in its home opener on Sept. 20 at 4:25 p.m. ET.
