FRISCO — The Cowboys will go into their home opener against the Commanders without two starters because of injuries.
Overshown, who has fought through injuries in four NFL seasons, has a strain of his hamstring.
Coach Brian Schottenheimer has a gaggle of players to pick from to replace Overshown.
“We got to move these guys around a little bit,” Schottenheimer said. “Dee Winters is obviously most experienced of the group. Jaishawn [Barham] got some valuable playtime [Sunday against New York], did some good things, did some things that he needs to improve on. Shemar James is a valued member of our football team, very smart, very bright.”
Schottenheimer mentioned Curtis Robinson and Justin Barron, two linebackers on the practice squad who could get elevated for the Washington game.
Replacing Hooker can fall to rookie Caleb Downs, who is listed by the Cowboys as a defensive back. Downs has played in the slot on pass downs and deep safety in the base.
Schottenheimer said Downs’ role will not change with Hooker out.
