The Cowboys entered 2024 with an idea how their tight end position would shake out. They left the season with more questions than answers. And although Jake Ferguson looks like he regressed and Luke Schoonmaker didn’t make enough strides to clear up questions about his 2023 selection, a shocking name surprised as a consistent collector of offensive snaps.
Brevyn Spann-Ford wasn’t intended to be a central figure in Dallas’ season, but there he was clocking substantial snaps and getting looks from the starting quarterback. Injuries forced the rookie into a 300-snap campaign as TE2 more often than not. It gave him a ton of experience to build on, which he’ll look to do this training camp and hopefully earn even more looks during the 2025 season.

Profile
Spann-Ford began last season as TE4, but came on once John Stephens suffered an ACL tear for the second year in a row. And as Ferguson struggled to get open with all of the extra attention paid to him, and while Schoonmaker filled in as TE1 for several weeks, Spann-Ford made serious strides as TE2.
As the blocking tight end, Spann-Ford left a lot to be desired, but it’s a tough ask of any rookie, much less a UDFA. His 55.4 run-blocking grade was not very good, but in the dozen times he was asked to pass protect he actually did a pretty good job. As a pass catcher, he caught six of nine targets for 88 yards.
This sumer he’ll look to hold off an entire batch of fellow UDFAs in Tyler Neville (2025), Rivaldo Fairweather (2025), Princeton Fant (2023) and Stephens (2023).
