Collins was a limited participant in Wednesday’s practice because of a hamstring injury, according to the Texans’ first injury report of the week.

The update comes just three days after Collins played a major role in Houston’s season opener against the Buffalo Bills. Although the Texans lost 36-31, their star receiver finished with seven catches for 75 yards and a touchdown.

Collins remains key to Texans offense

Collins’ status will be worth monitoring throughout the week as Houston prepares for the Cincinnati Bengals.

The sixth-year receiver has established himself as one of C.J. Stroud’s most important targets. He immediately occupied that role again in Week 1, scoring on a 12-yard reception in the second quarter.

Stroud also had a productive afternoon, completing 26 of 38 passes for 274 yards and two touchdowns without an interception. That showing helped Houston score 31 points despite the loss.

For now, Collins’ limited participation is the latest development rather than a final determination on his availability.

Houston is scheduled to host Cincinnati on Sunday, giving Collins several more opportunities to work his way through the practice week.

The Bengals’ Week 2 injury report also includes several notable names, but the team enters the matchup at 1-0 after defeating the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 33-27.

Collins’ availability could be particularly important for an offense looking to rebound from its opening-week loss. He was targeted on 10 of Stroud’s 38 pass attempts against Buffalo and led Houston in receiving.

The Texans will have to wait for further practice updates before Collins’ status becomes clearer. For now, the wide receiver remains limited because of the hamstring injury.
