LAWRENCE, Kan. (WIBW) – Kansas football has the opportunity of a lifetime in London this week when it’ll take the field on Saturday against Arizona State at Wembley Stadium.
While there’s a lot on the line for the Jayhawks in just this one game, head coach Lance Leipold isn’t losing perspective of Saturday’s stage.
“Memories that stick, especially when you play well and win the game, is when you really get to think about what you did,” Leipold told reporters on Monday. “It’s something you talk about with your friends and teammates for a lifetime. That’s what I’m hoping for.”
Leipold has history coaching in an overseas college football game. He was a GA at the University of Wisconsin in 1993 when the Badgers beat Michigan State in Toyko, Japan.
Recent history
The past few years of college teams taking their talents overseas in-season, and then losing, is far from pretty.
2022: Nebraska finished with a 4-8 record after Week 0 loss to Northwestern in Ireland
2023: Navy finished with a 5-7 record after WK 0 loss to Notre Dame (Ireland)
2024: Florida State finished with a 2-10 record after WK 0 loss to Georgia Tech (Ireland)
2025: K-State finished with a 6-6 record after WK 0 loss to Iowa State (Ireland)
2026: TCU is 1-0 since their Week 0 loss to North Carolina (Ireland)
Saturday’s schedule
Unlike NFL games in London, Saturday’s game between Arizona State and Kansas will not kick off early in the morning. The Sun Devils and Jayhawks are set to start things on Saturday at 11 a.m. on FS1.
