The Patriots released rookie offensive lineman Jacob Rizy, a Harvard grad, from their practice squad Thursday and signed offensive lineman Xavier Newman-Johnson to fill his spot.
Newman-Johnson entered the league with the Titans under then coach Mike Vrabel in 2022, when he was an undrafted rookie free agent from Baylor. He split time that season between Tennessee’s 53-man roster and practice squad, and later left the Titans in Oct. 2023. He has since then been with the Jets until they released him from their practice squad Tuesday.
Rizy originally signed as an undrafted rookie out of Florida State, where he played the last two years after starting at Harvard. He played all three interior line positions for the Patriots in the preseason and was released on cutdown day before he re-signed to the practice squad.
