NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) – In week two of Saints OTA, rookie quarterback Tyler Shough stood out in the competition for the starting job.
He is continuing to split reps with the first team offense with second-year player Spencer Rattler, but two particular throws by Shough stood out in week two.
Fox 8 reporters attended the workout last Thursday (May 29) and came away with observations on the Saints’ quarterback competition thus far.
Camera access for media members during OTAs is currently limited, but Fox 8 reporters in attendance say Shough connected on two 60-yard boms, one of which the Saints shared footage of through their social media accounts.
Shough’s two long bombs have been the talk of week two; however, he did throw an interception in the following 7-on-7 series last Thursday.

Sean Fazende and Andre Johnson Jr are back at the #Saints facility to break down the quarterback competition between Spencer Rattler and Tyler Shough

Fox 8 sports anchor Sean Fazende noted that, as impressive as Shough looks for now, new assessments will be needed when workouts transition from 7-on-7 to live contact football.
“From a raw, physical standpoint, his arm talent is the best in the room,” Fazende said. “But if he is not able to utilize the middle of the field, that will be the block that keeps him from getting on the football field.”
Fazende said that Shough has to get more consistency throwing to receivers across the middle, something that could unfold with more repetition.
