FRISCO – Cowboys kicker Brandon Aubrey is one of the best in the NFL.

His third kick of the 2026 season was a miss. It wasn’t a field goal, but a 48-yard point-after attempt that went wide right in the Week 1 loss to the Giants.

Officially, Aubrey is 28-for-30 on kicks between 40 and 49 yards. He went 10-for-10 last season from that range.

When Williams got the penalty, it forced coach Brian Schottenheimer to change his mind and go for the point-after.

“It’s quite a mental buildup to get prepared for a kick and then just to let it go is a mistake,” Aubrey said. “Get the penalty, come back on [the field] and didn’t properly get back in that state of mind I needed to. So, yeah, a mental error, physical error, not getting through the ball and those correlate more than anything else.”

In the regular season finale against the Giants last season, Aubrey missed a 57-yard field goal in the third quarter.

“Anytime you miss, it’s nothing to do with anything other than that kick and just didn’t have the correct form,” Aubrey said. “Made poor ball contact and pushed it. I didn’t finish through my swing, but that’s as simple as that.”
