Friday Night Hype: Highlights, scores and more from Week 4 of Iowa high school football

KCCI crews will fan out across central Iowa to cover some of the biggest games on Week 4 of the prep football season, including our game of the week (Ankeny Centennial vs. Ankeny) and Wild Card matchup (East Union at Lenox).

Our game of the week is the battle for Ankeny. It’s the 3-0 Ankeny Hawks against the 2-1 Ankeny Centennial Jaguars, with kickoff set for 7 p.m. at Ankeny Stadium.

The Hawks have opened the season with road wins Week 1 at Waukee Northwest and Week 3 at Des Moines Roosevelt, and a home win Week 2 against Waukee.

Senior quarterback Mason Machan leads the Hawks with 500 yards passing. He’s completed 47 of his 74 passes to 8 different receivers, with 6 TD passes to just 1 interception.

Senior Rowan Doak has a team-high 26.5 tackles to lead the defense, with 10 tackles for loss and 2 sacks.

Centennial opened with a 56-25 loss against Southeast Polk before beating Linn-Mar and Des Moines Lincoln.

Jaguars QB Brekken Miller leads Class 5A with 925 passing yards and is tied for second with 8 touchdown passes. Senior Cade Newman is among three Jaguars with more than 200 yards receiving, with a team-high 234. Newman, senior Luke Mitchell and sophomore Matthew Nichols each have 2 TD catches.

In last Friday’s game of the week, North Polk won at ADM, 40-14.

Wild Card game

The winning game in this week’s Wild Card contest, selected by voters on the KCCI Facebook page, is East Union at Lenox. We’ll be in southwest Iowa on Friday, where the Tigers host the Eagles, with highlights featured in our Friday Night Hype coverage.

East Union is 2-0 with wins against Wayne and Seymour. The Eagles, who had an off week last Friday, have outscored those opponents by a combined score of 116-22.

Junior Braxdyn Tucker leads East Union in passing and rushing. He is 22-of-33 passing for 367 yards and 6 touchdowns with no interceptions. He’s also rushed 21 times for 216 yards and 4 touchdowns. Sophomore Caden Clear has a team-high 10 catches for 154 yards and 1 touchdown, and also leads the Eagles with 9. tackles, including 4.5 for loss.

Lenox opened with back-to-back losses to Woodbine and Bedford before winning last week against Murray, 44-20.

Junior Brogan Petersen is 24-for-50 passing for 335 yards and 8 touchdowns against 1 interception. Junior Wylie Brokaw leads the Tigers with 139 yards rushing and 2 touchdowns. Junior Jack Reed has a team-high 7 receptions for 105 yards and 3 touchdowns.

East Union beat Lenox last season, 22-18.

Kickoff in Lenox is at 7 p.m. Friday.

In last week’s Wild Card game, Southeast Valley (3-0) beat South Hamilton (1-2), 54-0.

Stat leaders heading into Week 4
