Sunday Night Football Preview
Indianapolis Colts at Kansas City Chiefs (-5.5) O/U: 47.5

Clear Starts: Jonathan Taylor, Tyler Warren, Patrick Mahomes, Kenneth Walker III, Rashee Rice, Travis Kelce

Daniel Jones – QB, Indianapolis Colts

The Chiefs stifled Bo Nix last week, but we can’t be sure if they can keep this up. After trading away star CB Trent McDuffie to the Rams, the Chiefs drafted CB Mansoor Delane with the 6th overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. The rookie picked off Bo Nix before exiting the game with a shoulder injury. At the moment, Delane is questionable to play on Sunday Night Football in Week 2. His presence would aid the Chiefs’ defense tremendously.

Delane is just one piece of the puzzle, though. Daniel Jones only managed 166 yards, 1 TD, and 1 INT last week against the Baltimore Ravens. Jones received a 35.6 PFF grade when under pressure, which accounted for 14 of his 34 dropbacks. The Chiefs have had success generating pressure under veteran DC Steve Spagnuolo. Kansas City generated pressure on 30.3% of Broncos dropbacks last week, 8th highest in the league. Expect Jones to continue to struggle in a tough matchup. He may improve on last week’s performance, but he’s a sit in Week 2.

Emmett Johnson – RB, Kansas City Chiefs

While Kenneth Walker III stole headlines, Emmett Johnson was a silent winner last week. The 5th-round rookie did not get much usage until the final drives when Kansas City was assured victory, but he was the only other Chiefs RB to record a rush or target. Even in blowouts, it’s unlikely that Johnson returns much value. However, he looks like the direct backup to Walker. Brashard Smith is the only other RB on the active roster, and he only played on Special Teams last week.

While you won’t start Johnson, he should be rostered in every single league. He’s worth watching each week to make sure that nobody else is a threat to his handcuff value in fantasy football. Keep an eye on him in Week 2.

Alec Pierce & Josh Downs – WR, Indianapolis Colts

The Colts receivers were something to watch with the departure of WR Michael Pittman Jr. and Alec Pierce signing a massive deal. Pierce was targeted 6 times last week, tied with Keenan Allen for the most on the team, and had the most success of the pass-catchers. However, Daniel Jones was unable to do much through the air, limiting upside despite being down big all game. That trend could continue against a Chiefs defense that completely shut down the Broncos last week.

Pierce should benefit the most again and should offer a solid floor after converting his 6 targets into 4 receptions for 61 yards. Throughout his career, Pierce has been incredibly efficient with his limited targets. Last year, he drew 84 targets but still finished with over 1,000 receiving yards and led the league in yards per reception. Pierce finished as a PPR WR3 or better in eight of his fifteen games last year.

Josh Downs, on the other hand, typically draws more targets. Downs averaged 98 targets in his first three seasons, but he has yet to exceed 803 receiving yards in a year. Downs drew 4 targets last week and owned the intermediate work despite Keenan Allen’s presence. However, the sheer amount of quality skill position players hurts Downs’ consistency on a weekly basis. Unless he scores a TD, Downs is unlikely to finish as a WR2 in PPR leagues.

If you’re looking for a decent floor, Alec Pierce should have a solid game. Of the WRs, Pierce is the one who can do more with less. If Daniel Jones struggles again, it’s unlikely that multiple pass-catchers can feast. Josh Downs is unlikely to get the volume he needs to turn in a worthwhile fantasy performance. Start Pierce as a low-end WR2 or FLEX but expect limited upside. Downs is replaceable on the waiver wire in most leagues this week.

Xavier Worthy – WR, Kansas City Chiefs

While the Chiefs offense went off last week, Patrick Mahomes was not asked to do much. The Chiefs scored 31 points, but Mahomes only completed 15 passes for 184 yards and 2 TDs. Part of that is because the run game was doing well, but it is something to monitor as the weeks go on. We don’t know how the 2026 Chiefs pass game will look when down big or in a shootout.

The Colts struggled to stop anything last week against the Ravens, but mainly got beat on the ground. If that continues this week against a red-hot Kenneth Walker III, passing volume could once again be limited. Xavier Worthy did draw 6 targets last week, tied for the most on the Chiefs, but only converted them into 3 catches for 18 yards. The volume is encouraging, but Worthy has failed to deliver consistent fantasy value in his career. Last season, Worthy only scored a single TD and finished as a PPR WR2 or better once. Expect another run-heavy game from the Chiefs. Worthy is a risky play who has failed to show us a great ceiling.
