Durant suffered a hamstring strain in the first half, causing him to miss the second half. Locke was also ruled out quickly. He was seen walking with a protective boot on his right foot after the game. Schottenheimer said Locke tore the plantar fascia, which is a band of tissue that runs from the heel to the toes.

Schottenheimer said a torn plantar fascia, from a recovery sense, is arguably better for a football player than dealing with a partial tear.

“It begins to heal much quicker when you tear it fully,” Schottenheimer said.

Schottenheimer said they haven’t finalized a decision on whether Locke will require a trip to injured reserve. If he does, he’ll miss four games.

The injuries are starting to pile up for the Cowboys on the defensive side of the ball. The Cowboys entered Sunday’s game already without starting safety Malik Hooker (fractured forearm) and starting linebacker DeMarvion Overshown (hamstring). Locke replaced Hooker in the starting lineup, but only for the beginning of the game. Safety Markquese Bell replaced Locke on Sunday, while second-year corner Shavon Revel Jr. replaced Durant.

Cowboys rookie linebacker Jaishawn Barham filled in for Overshown as one of the team’s starting linebackers and their main green-dot communicator, relaying the play call from the sideline to the huddle. Barham missed a few plays on Sunday, as did fellow starter Dee Winters. That prompted the Cowboys to also bring in second-year linebacker Shemar James, a former fifth-round pick out of Florida.

Schottenheimer said “it could be tough” for Overshown to make it back from his hamstring injury for Sunday’s game against the Baltimore Ravens in Rio de Janeiro.Â
