Brock Purdy had an exceptional performance in the 49ers’ 35-13 win over the Miami Dolphins, earning him a team-high PFF grade (96.6) and the best among all quarterbacks through Sunday night.  

Purdy finished the game completing 20 of his 22 attempts for 287 yards with two touchdowns and a 149.1 rating, and PFF shows where the quarterback found his success. After a Week 1 performance where the short passing game carried the offense to a win over the Los Angeles Rams, the signal-caller found open targets further down the field facing the Dolphins. 

In the 49ers’ 2026 NFL season opener, Purdy’s average depth of target was 6 yards downfield while completing 11 of his 12 attempts behind the line of scrimmage. When facing the Dolphins, the quarterback’s average depth of target was 9 yards with only one attempt and completion behind the line of scrimmage. 

Nine of Purdy’s 10 attempts from 0 to 9 yards down field were complete, with a perfect eight of eight on passes 10 to 19 yards downfield, and two completions 20 or more yards deep. In Week 1, Purdy only attempted five passes 10 or more yards downfield, completing three. 

The offense had more time to let plays develop, with Purdy’s average time to throw being 3.10 seconds in Week 2 compared to 2.71 seconds in Melbourne, Australia, when the offense needed to get rid of the ball quickly, neutralizing Myles Garrett. 

Here are more highlights from the 49ers’ Week 2 PFF grades: 

Offense

TE George Kittle – 90.2 

The All-Pro was in midseason form, catching all four of his targets for 80 yards and a touchdown. Three of Kittle’s four receptions went for first downs, and the tight end racked up 28 yards after catch. 

FB Kyle Juszczyk – 83.1 

The fullback received the offense’s third-highest grade after catching his two targets, both of which were a touchdown or first down. 

The offensive line only allowed four pressures throughout the entire game. Colton McKivitz allowed one hit and two hurries, while Trent Williams allowed one hurry. 

Defense

The 49ers’ defense had a challenging start to the game when they were unable to get off the field, but the unit played a cleaner second half with seven total missed tackles throughout the contest. CJ West missed two tackles, while Ji’Ayir Brown, Gracen Halton, Dre Greenlaw, Nick Bosa and Jack Jones were charged with one missed tackle each. 

DL Nick Bosa – 84.5 

The All-Pro missed one tackle, but he registered the most pressures on Dolphins quarterback Malik Willis with five hurries. Bosa was on the field for 40 defensive snaps, recording three tackles and one stop.

S Ji’Ayir Brown – 67.6 

Brown’s overall score fell due to a missed tackle, but the safety led the team with 12 tackles according to NFL stats, eight per PFF. The Penn State product also was effective in coverage, allowing one catch for 11 yards on three targets. 

LB Dre Greenlaw – 83.0 

Greenlaw registered eight tackles, seven of which were considered defensive stops by PFF, which helped him notch the defense’s second-highest grade. The linebacker also allowed four completions on as many targets for only 29 yards, which garnered him a 73.4 coverage grade.
