Welcome back to the Week 3 update of my weekly article series for the 2026 season titled the “Steelers 2027 QB Report.”

Throughout this year, several of our staff writers here at the Steel Curtain Network will be covering College Football from a variety of angles to help readers prepare for the 2027 NFL Draft as it relates to the Pittsburgh Steelers. So many things can and will change from Week 1 all the way to the College Football Playoff, and it’s important to keep pace with the ever-evolving landscape.

For this series, I’ll build a weekly stock report of sorts covering the best players at the most important position in the sport: the Quarterback.

Starting here in Week 3, I’ll be hitting a more in-depth scouting report on one Quarterback prospect that stood out the previous week. What better place to start than Mr. Hotty Toddy himself, Trinidad Chambliss, after his incredibly clutch performance against LSU in the game of the year so far in college football.

2021–2022 · Ferris State: Joined the program in 2021 and redshirted. Did not play in 2022 because of a respiratory illness.
2023 · Ferris State: Appeared in eight games and made one start.
2024 · Ferris State: Made 15 starts and led the Bulldogs to the Division II national championship, defeating Valdosta State 49–14.
2025 · Ole Miss: Transferred to the SEC and earned conference Newcomer of the Year honors in his first FBS season.
2026 · Ole Miss: Returned to the Rebels; listed as “Fifth Year+” on the official roster.

Awards and honors

2024: GLIAC Player of the Year; AP and AFCA first-team All-American; third in Harlon Hill Trophy voting; Division II national champion.

2025: SEC Newcomer of the Year; Conerly Trophy winner; second-team All-SEC; Manning Award finalist; eighth in Heisman Trophy voting.

2026 preseason: First-team All-SEC selections from coaches and media, plus national award watch-list recognition.

Numbers that stand out

51 TDs accounted for at Ferris State in 2024 (25 rushing TDs).
4,464 total offensive YDS and 30 TDs accounted for in 2025.
8.85 YDS/ATT in his first SEC season.
3 INTs in 445 ATT in 2025: a 0.67% interception rate.

Scouting report

STRENGTHS: Mobility, arm strength, ability to throw off-platform, escaping pressure, extending plays, throwing on the run, pocket awareness, scrambling

WEAKNESSES: Size overall, rhythm passing from the pocket, full-field progression work, anticipation, visibility within the pocket, generally a height/weight outlier at the position

MY TAKE: An undersized, mobile quarterback whose production translated from Division II to the SEC. Chambliss is at his best on the move, resetting the pocket on rollouts and half-field reads, and pushing the ball down the field. Struggles with sight lines behind bigger offensive linemen, making him more of a see-it, throw-it guy than an anticipatory thrower. Explosive runner with good feel for contact avoidance. Keeps his eyes downfield when extending plays. Ball jumps off his hand, but has the ability to dial back and layer in throws between levels. He will have to overcome the natural deficiencies that come with his size.
