A 10th Patriots player has been placed on injured reserve.
The Patriots placed rookie outside linebacker Quintayvious Hutchins on injured reserve Friday. Hutchins had already been ruled out for Sunday’s game against the Jaguars with a knee injury.
The move leaves the Patriots with 52 players on their roster. With veteran outside linebacker Dre’Mont Jones (shoulder) also ruled out, the Patriots have just three healthy outside linebackers in Elijah Ponder, Gabe Jacas and Jose Ramirez.
The Patriots have two edge defenders, Xavier Holmes and Benton Whitley, on their practice squad.
The team could leave the spot open on their roster. They also could elect to sign Holmes, Whitley or safety Mike Brown to add needed depth.
Hutchins was a seventh-round pick out of Boston College. He must miss at least four games on IR.
Punter Bryce Baringer, wide receiver A.J. Brown, offensive tackle Marcus Bryant, tight end Julian Hill, linebacker Khalil Jacobs, running back Myles Montgomery, right guard Mike Onwenu, safety Dell Pettus and wide receiver Jeremiah Webb are already on injured reserve. Hill, Montgomery and Webb are out for the season.
The Patriots also have outside linebacker Harold Landry on the physically unable to perform list and safety Brenden Schooler on the non-football injury list.
