Case Keenum shined for the Bears on Monday Night Football, guiding Chicago to a 27-to-7 win over the Eagles. In place of the injured Caleb Williams and recovering Tyson Bagent, the veteran quarterback threw for 247 yards and two touchdowns on a 70.6% completion rate. He also rushed for a touchdown on a QB sneak.
The Eagles’ offense failed to get much going with 248 total yards and a 22% conversion rate on third down, turning the ball over three times in the contest. After rushing for 73 yards in the first half, Saquon Barkley only recorded nine yards on four carries in the second.
“Got to do a better job on first down runs. Got to do a better job of staying above the sticks, not getting behind the sticks. Kind of the same theme that’s been going on for a little bit. We just did a really good job in the first half versus the second half,” Barkley said after the game. “We got to fix it. We know the problem. We got to get better at it. Got a short week, so got to move on quick.”
The Eagles’ defense failed to get a sack or force a turnover. Bears rookie safety Dillon Thieneman had a breakout performance, recording an interception off of Any Dalton in the end zone.
“I obviously didn’t see the safety in the middle and he just read my eyes, my eyes were over there and he made the play,” Dalton said. “I can’t turn the ball over in that situation. I can’t put us in a bad place like that.”
Jalen Hurts had to leave the game briefly to be checked for a concussion after being illegally hit out of bounds.
“The health of the players (is) the most important thing,” Head Coach Nick Sirianni said of the drive. “Unfortunate how that series turned out. First-and-goal at the one, we lose some yards and then we throw an interception.”
Edge rusher Jonathan Greenard made his long awaited debut for the Eagles, recording a quarterback hit and a forcing a fumble on limited snaps. Greenard suffered a pectoral injury before Training Camp and is still getting worked-in to the Eagles’ defensive rotation.
“Obviously I think we stopped the run a good little bit. They didn’t get over 100 yards until at the very end,” Greenard said. “But we just got a lot of things to clean up. We got to get cleaned up in the rush game.”
