OAKLAND COUNTY, Mich. — The Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office said Wednesday it will not file charges against Detroit Lions Wide receiver Jameson Williams following an investigation into an alleged domestic violence incident.
The incident allegedly occurred Aug. 6 and was reported to the Novi Police Department in September, the prosecutor’s office said.
“The Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office takes all allegations of domestic violence seriously,” Jeff Wattrick, a public information officer for the office, said in a statement to Local 4. “While this matter involves a public figure, it was handled with the same consideration as any other.”
Novi police reviewed statements, photos, videos, and communications between the alleged victim and Williams, according to the prosecutor’s office.
Investigators also sought additional information from the alleged victim.
“Based on the facts presented to us at this time, the Novi Police and our office jointly concluded that there is no cause to file charges against Mr. Williams,” Wattrick said.
Williams denied the allegation through his attorneys, Jason Lampert and Larry Margolis.
“Mr. Williams unequivocally denies the allegation of domestic violence,” the attorneys said in a statement to Local 4. “We have provided the prosecutor’s office with extensive evidence directly relevant to the credibility, timing and circumstances surrounding this allegation, which is baseless.”
Williams remains focused on the Lions’ season, his attorneys said.
Jameson Williams 2026 season
Williams, 24, is the No. 2 receiver for the 2-1 Lions and has 10 catches for 127 yards through three games this season and has not scored a touchdown.
Through those three games, Williams has caught four passes for 45 yards in Detroit’s season-opening victory over the New Orleans Saints on Sept. 13.
He had two catches for 33 yards in a Week 2 Thursday Night Football loss to the Buffalo Bills.
Detroit made a concerted effort to involve Williams early in last week’s game, throwing to him on two of their first six plays as he tallied four catches for 49 yards in the home rebound victory against the New York Jets inside Ford Field.
Detroit Lions draft Jameson Williams in 2022
The Lions selected Williams with the 12th pick in the 2022 NFL draft.
Williams missed most of his rookie season while recovering from a college knee injury and served a four-game suspension in 2023 for violating the NFL’s gambling policy.
He has since recorded two consecutive 1,000-yard receiving seasons and signed a three-year, $83 million contract extension with the Lions last fall.
