GREEN BAY − The Green Bay Packers have plenty of options to work with on offense this season. The biggest question is how will the group be the most effective in 2025?
“We’re trying to figure that out right now,” Packers coach Matt LaFleur said.

Due to injuries to quarterback Jordan Love, the offense primarily ran through Josh Jacobs in 2024. It proved to be successful, giving Jacobs a Pro Bowl honor and one of the best seasons in his six years in the NFL with more than 1,300 rushing yards, a career-high 15 touchdowns and the first receiving score of his career.
In early observations at Packers practice during organized team activities, Love appears confident heading into his third year as the starting quarterback. The running back room still is in good shape with Jacobs and a healthy 2024 third-round draft pick MarShawn Lloyd. Now, there’s more competition at wide receiver after adding draft picks Matthew Golden and Savion Williams to the mix, and Romeo Doubs and Jayden Reed also in good health.

LaFleur is spending the offseason trying to figure out how this team will attack defenses, and the different options could be a good problem to have.

“I think it gives you a lot of flexibility in regards to where do you want to go with (the ball), but I think that’s part of the beauty of this time of year,” LaFleur said. “You’re trying to work through different things. Obviously, you’re going to throw in some new wrinkles that you get by watching other teams or maybe watching yourself.
“I think it organically develops over time and into training camp and preseason, and I think we’ll have a much better idea as we go into Week 1.”
Here are some takeaways from the offense during LaFleur’s June 3 news conference:
MarShawn Lloyd is in a ‘good spot’
The coaches are high on the potential of former USC running back MarShawn Lloyd and what he can bring. After essentially missing his entire rookie season in 2024, Lloyd has been on the practice field during OTAs and the focus has been to keep him fresh.

LaFleur said Lloyd had another setback during the offseason but is in a good place right now.
“I think he’s in a lot better spot,” LaFleur said. “He trained his butt off from the day the season ended to coming back here and he worked really hard to get back, and he had another thing pop up. He’s in a lot better spot right now and we’ll give him more as tolerated.”
Luke Musgrave trying to get into a rhythm
Among the Packers offensive weapons are two tight ends who bring a different element.
Tucker Kraft brings physicality with his ability to get yards after the catch and his blocking. Luke Musgrave is an athletic player who can stretch the field and bring explosive plays to the offense.

The key for Musgrave has been his health. Due to an ankle injury that put him on injured reserve, Musgrave appeared in just seven games with seven receptions for 45 yards in 2024.
Musgrave had some bright spots during his rookie season in 2023 with 34 catches for 352 yards and a touchdown in the regular season and added a touchdown against the Dallas Cowboys in the playoffs.
“I thought his first year he was starting to come on a little bit and open up the door for (Tucker) and he’s done an outstanding job of that,” LaFleur said. “I think both of those guys are unique in their own ways and they both bring a little something different, but I’m excited to have both of those guys in our system.”
