A second spot has opened at Gillette Stadium.

The New England Patriots waived outside linebacker Jose Ramirez from the 53-man roster as part of multiple moves announced Tuesday afternoon.

Ramirez, 27, had joined the practice squad in Foxborough as the calendar turned to September after clearing waivers at the NFL’s cutdown deadline. Three weeks later, the 6-foot-2, 252-pound edge rusher was promoted to the active roster. He notched one tackle and appeared in two games from there, seeing 30 snaps between special teams and defense.

Entering the NFL in the sixth round of the 2023 draft at No. 196 overall, the former MAC Defensive Player of the Year by way of Arizona, Riverside City College and Eastern Michigan checked into four career games before heading to the AFC East. Beginning his run with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Ramirez spent last year with the CFL’s Hamilton Tiger-Cats before circling back with the Philadelphia Eagles on a futures contract in January.

Head coach Mike Vrabel’s active roster awaits a series of returns from reserve lists now that the initial four games of the regular season are in the rearview.

Also on Tuesday, the 2-2 Patriots signed cornerback Al’Zillion Hamilton to the practice squad and released offensive lineman Da’Metrius Weatherspoon to make room among the 17-man group.

Hamilton, 24, agreed to terms with the Los Angeles Rams as part of the organization’s undrafted class of 2026. The 5-foot-11, 190-pound rookie corner out of Fresno State was waived leading up to the NFL’s 53-man roster deadline in August. Hamilton appeared in 54 games, including 35 starts, during his Bulldogs career and amassed 123 tackles, eight interceptions and 26 passes defensed. He went from an All-Mountain West honorable mention to a second-team All-Mountain West pick between his junior and senior seasons.

Weatherspoon, 23, signed to New England’s practice squad last week. Entering the NFL with the Buffalo Bills as an undrafted free agent in May, the 6-foot-6, 319-pound rookie lineman was waived as part of NFL cutdowns in August. He played 67 snaps between left and right tackle during his rookie preseason. Beginning his collegiate career at Howard, where HBCU All-American honors arrived in 2023, Weatherspoon transferred to Syracuse for the 2024 and 2025 campaigns. His stay with the Orange brought 25 appearances, including 22 starts.

The Las Vegas Raiders visit Gillette Stadium next Sunday. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. ET.
