The Cincinnati Bengals got some promising injury news at Thursday’s practice as they prepare to hit the road and take on the Miami Dolphins and try to snap their two-game losing streak.
Wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase (concussion) was back in uniform and on the practice field Thursday, which is a positive step in his recovery. Chase was listed as a limited participant. Going through practice is part of the NFL’s concussion protocol. If Chase responds well and doesn’t have any setbacks, that is one step closer to being cleared for game action.
Fellow receiver Tee Higgins (adductor/neck) was again not in uniform for practice, but did get some work in with trainers on the rehab field. The Bengals could opt to sit Higgins this week, rest him over the bye week, and hope to have him back for an important matchup with the Baltimore Ravens.
Safety Bryan Cook (ankle) was back in pads and also got some work on the rehab field, but his being in uniform is a good sign in his progression. He was listed as a limited participant.
Kyle Dugger (quadricep) was still unable to practice, so it isn’t looking great for him Sunday.
Guard Dalton Risner (knee) was again limited. He was clearly gutting it out in Week 4 and likely will play at less than 100% this week.
Wide receiver Colbie Young (knee) was limited on Wednesday and upgraded to a full participant in Thursday’s practice. If he is able to play Sunday and Higgins isn’t, Young could see his largest role of his young career.
Defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence II (wrist) was limited on Wednesday and again on Thursday. Hopefully, it isn’t major, and he is able to play through.
Jonathan Allen (knee/rest) got the day off again Thursday.
For Miami, they had five players held out of Thursday’s practice. Defensive end Rob Beal Jr. (hamstring), wide receiver Caleb Douglas (ankle), tight end Justin Jolly (concussion), defensive back Reese Taylor (quadricep), and linebacker Jackson Woodard (ankle) all missed practice.
Running back Jaylen Wright has now popped up with a foot injury and was limited. Everyone else who was limited on Wednesday had the same designation on Thursday.
