The Pittsburgh Steelers are preparing for the Indianapolis Colts in Week 5, their latest conference game, and it is time to take a look at what some of the people who label themselves as “experts” think about the upcoming game.
Will Aaron Rodgers and Mike McCarthy get their offense together and put up some points?
Will the Colts prove they can run all over the Steelers?
There is a lot going on with this game, and the experts are certainly forecasting a close game, regardless of who they have leaving the week with a victory. When it comes to the odds for the game, the Steelers are currently giving 2.5 points with a total of 44.5, keep that in mind as you check out what the experts believe will take place.
Before going any further, understand there are two types of websites when it comes to expert picks. There are those who have all their experts just click a box, and those who have experts provide some reasoning behind their selection. An example of the former would be the panel at ESPN. There are eight of the NFL experts at ESPN like the Steelers to get their third win in Week 3 at Acrisure Stadium this Sunday.
As for those experts who put more thought into their picks outside of just checking a box, the panel at Bleacher Report gave their predictions for how they see the Steelers game going, versus the spread:
Hanford: Steelers (-1.5)
The Colts are coming off a game in London and now have to go on the road to face a Steelers team that has had a few extra days of rest.
The Indianapolis defense ranks 31st in the league in yards allowed per game, giving Aaron Rodgers and the Steelers an opportunity to exploit a struggling unit.
I expect Pittsburgh to bounce back from its Thursday night loss, with Rodgers delivering a solid performance to secure the win.
Sobleski: Colts (+1.5)
The Colts may be on a two-game winning streak, but the rest of B/R’s analysts are picking the Steelers. Logically, Pittsburgh should be favored thanks to extra prep time after a Thursday night game, and Indianapolis played in London last weekend.
However, Jonathan Taylor can take over against a Steelers defense that’s middle of the pack against the run. Plus, Pittsburgh will be without defensive lineman Derrick Harmon and cornerback Jamel Dean.
Predictions
Colts: Sobleski
Steelers: Davenport, Gagnon, Hanford, Knox, Moton, O’Donnell
The experts on the Sports Illustrated staff also provided general picks for the upcoming game, and if you are someone who likes to see people pick against the Steelers, this would be your bread-and-butter. The SI crew has half of their experts taking the Steelers and leaning on the road team when it comes to who they like on Sunday.
Albert Breer: Colts
Eva Geitheim: Steelers
Mitch Goldich: Steelers
Mike Kadlick: Steelers
Gilberto Manzano: Colts
Conor Orr: Colts
John Pluym: Colts
Matt Verderame: Steelers
At NFL.com, all 3 of the 5 experts are like the Steelers in this Week 5 contest. While that might stun some reading this, one of their staff writers always gives an explanation as to why he is making the pick of the Steelers this Sunday.
Jeremy Bergman – Predicted score: 21-19 – Steelers
Brooke Cersosimo – Predicted score: 25-24 – Colts
Gennaro Filice – Predicted score: 22-16 – Steelers
Bobby Kownack – Predicted score: 26-24 – Colts
Dan Parr – Predicted score: 21-18 – Steelers
Why Jeremy picked the Steelers: Pittsburgh is going through it. The Steelers have stewed for a week after their TNF loss to Cleveland in which every veteran seemed to have lost his temper. By Sunday, heads should be cooler, just as Jonathan Taylor is heating up. The Colts’ star RB carried his team to victory in London and is finding the end zone at a near-league-best clip. If Taylor can dictate Sunday’s game, Indy will come away with it. Daniel Jones may be standing in the way. A turnover machine in the past few weeks, Jones faces an opportunistic Pittsburgh defense in Week 5, one that has logged two takeaways in each of its first four games. Indianapolis hasn’t won a game’s turnover battle since November 2025. For two teams on the edge of the postseason discussion in the AFC, Sunday’s result could be critical down the line. Whoever takes care of the ball should come out ahead. Point, Pittsburgh.
Pete Prisco of CBS Sports always gives his picks for the upcoming slate of games, and he is usually one to pick against the Steelers. However, in this upcoming game he likes the Steelers at home after extra rest.
“The Colts have won two straight as they head to face the Steelers on the road after beating the Commanders in London last week. That’s a tough turnaround, while the Steelers have extra days of rest. That matters. The Steelers will get back on track with a victory led by Aaron Rodgers.”
Pick: Steelers 33, Colts 23
