Patriots running back TreVeyon Henderson suffered a high ankle sprain in last Sunday’s win over the Raiders and is expected to miss multiple weeks, according to an ESPN report Tuesday.

Henderson left the game in the second quarter and did not return. He finished the day with four carries for 22 yards. Henderson has 163 rushing yards and one rushing touchdown on the season with a 3.9 yards per carry average.

A 2025 second-round pick, Henderson had been serving as the Patriots’ No. 2 running back behind Rhamondre Stevenson, who now projects to see even more carries, as does No. 3 back Corey Kiner.

Stevenson has started all five games for the Pats and leads the team in rushing with 227 yards and five touchdowns. He’s proven to be a steadier, more efficient runner than Henderson, a home-run threat. Stevenson rushed for 64 yards and a touchdown last Sunday and added three receptions for 21 yards, despite being listed as questionable on the Patriots’ final injury report with a knee injury.

“We’ll need Mondre’s ability to create plays out in space and catch the ball. He catches the ball very well, and we saw how critical that was last year, too,” Pats coach Mike Vrabel said Monday. “It was good to see him fight to get back out there (against the Raiders), being limited during the week.”

Kiner has 20 rushes for 81 yards this year, plus two catches for 16 yards. The Patriots acquired him in a trade with Arizona in late August. He’s a second-year back who played sparingly as a rookie.

Without Henderson, the Patriots are likely to elevate second-year back Lan Larison from the practice squad for their upcoming games and/or sign a new running back. Larison was elevated for the season opener at Seattle, where he caught two passes for nine yards. The Patriots previously had veterans Hassan Haskins and JaMycal Hasty on their roster during the last weeks of training camp.

The Patriots are also expected to be without starting left tackle Will Campbell, who reportedly suffered a knee sprain Sunday. Depending on the severity of the sprain, Campbell, who did not return either after leaving in the second quarter, could miss multiple games, as well. First-round rookie Caleb Lomu replaced him against the Raiders and projects as the team’s new starter until Campbell can return.
