The Miami Dolphins had one wide receiver come onto the active roster while cutting another late Tuesday afternoon.
The Dolphins claimed wide receiver Jared Wayne off waivers from the Houston Texans. To make room, they waived wide receiver and special teams contributor Ryan Miller.
Wayne had been with the Texans since 2023, mostly on the practice squad. He has six career receptions for 85 yards, four of those catches for 65 yards have come this season before he was waived Monday, making him available.
Wayne is a tall receiver at 6 feet 3. A native of Ontario, Canada, he played his high school football at Clearwater Academy International and played college football at Pittsburgh.
Miller is off the Dolphins’ active roster after he was claimed off waivers ahead of the season after cuts to 53-man rosters across the league.
Miller was largely brought to the Dolphins for special teams play. It’s unknown if his cut is due to his performance on special teams or if Miami wants a different wide receiver with a better chance to contribute from scrimmage.
Miller caught a long touchdown, quarterback Malik Willis’ first touchdown pass with the Dolphins, at the end of the Sept. 20 loss to the San Francisco 49ers.
Miami also swapped out practice squad defensive linemen Tuesday.
The team added Jordan Jefferson while releasing Mazi Smith from the practice squad.
Jefferson, who is 6-foot-3 and 337 pounds, has appeared in 10 career games over the past two seasons between time with the Jacksonville Jaguars, 49ers and Cincinnati Bengals. He has made 12 tackles plus a sack in the NFL.
Smith, a former first-round pick of the Dallas Cowboys out of Michigan, was picked up for the practice squad Sept. 1 and was elevated for the Oct. 4 game against the Minnesota Vikings.
