Jared Verse Focused on Team Success in Second Rams Season
Rams outside linebacker Jared Verse is approaching his second NFL season with a team-first mindset. After earning AP Defensive Rookie of the Year honors in 2024, Verse emphasized his commitment to continuous improvement on Tuesday.
“I don’t really feel too much pressure,” Verse stated. “If I’m who I am, if I take the strides needed to take, I’m going to be the best version of me, and I’m going to be able to help the team in any facet or way that they need.”Â
Reflecting on his rookie season, Verse acknowledged areas for growth, noting that he left “10 sacks” on the field due to missed opportunities. He is now focused on refining his technique and understanding of the game to capitalize on such chances.
Defensive coordinator Chris Shula echoed this sentiment, advising Verse to avoid placing undue pressure on himself. “We don’t want him to put any extra pressure on himself,” Shula said. “Just be the best version of yourself.”
Verse also discussed his evolving partnership with fellow former Florida State teammate Braden Fiske. Initially focused on recreating their college chemistry, the duo has shifted their approach to better serve the team’s overall defensive strategy. “I think we became more focused on helping the team than trying to do our own thing,” Verse explained.Â

Chris Shula Emphasizes Growth and Consistency in Rams’ Defense
Los Angeles Rams defensive coordinator Chris Shula highlighted the importance of player development and continuity within the defensive unit.
Shula specifically discussed the progression of Verse. Rather than focusing on statistical benchmarks, Shula emphasized the need for Verse to continue refining his understanding of the defensive scheme and to be the best version of himself. “We don’t want him to put any extra pressure on himself,” Shula stated. “Just like we talked about with [defensive end] Kobie Turner last year, you don’t gotta replace Aaron Donald, you don’t gotta do anything else, just be the best version of yourself.”Â
Shula also noted that Verse has shown a more comprehensive grasp of the defense during OTAs, attributing this to the linebacker’s application of techniques taught by position coaches Joe Coniglio and Giff Smith. “You can tell he’s really taken the techniques that Joe and Giff are really teaching him and applying them on the field,” Shula observed. “And I think things have slowed down for him a little bit, and he’s playing really fast right now.”Â

Mike LaFleur Highlights Davante Adams’ Impact and Offensive Evolution at Rams OTAs
Rams offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur provided insights into the offense’s development and the significant impact of new acquisition Davante Adams.
LaFleur praised Adams’ performance, noting that the veteran wide receiver defies age expectations. “He’s north of 30, but the way he’s out there, it doesn’t look like it,” LaFleur remarked. “He’s got a lot of juice in the tank, and it’s been fun to watch.”
The offensive coordinator also discussed the integration of Adams into the Rams’ offensive scheme, emphasizing how his presence enhances the unit’s versatility. LaFleur highlighted Adams’ ability to adjust routes and create separation, which adds a new dimension to the team’s passing game.
In addition to Adams’ contributions, LaFleur touched on the overall progression of the offense during OTAs. He expressed satisfaction with the players’ grasp of the playbook and their execution on the field, indicating a positive trajectory as the team prepares for the upcoming season.

Chase Blackburn Emphasizes Competition and Innovation in Rams’ Special Teams
Rams special teams coordinator Chase Blackburn highlighted the emphasis on competition and adaptability within the special teams unit.
Blackburn discussed the recent signing of veteran return specialist Britain Covey, noting that his addition brings valuable experience and fosters healthy competition, particularly in the punt return role previously held by Xavier Smith. “I think competition breeds success, so it’s a good thing for us,” Blackburn stated.Â
The coordinator also addressed the impact of recent NFL rule changes on kickoff strategies. With touchbacks now placing the ball at the 35-yard line, Blackburn and his staff are developing innovative schemes to capitalize on the new dynamics. “We’re coming up with some different unique kickoff schemes,” he explained, emphasizing the versatility now available in formations and blocking techniques.
Continuity in the kicking unit remains a focal point for the Rams. Blackburn praised the development of kicker Joshua Karty, who, after a challenging rookie season, demonstrated significant improvement and consistency. The return of punter Ethan Evans and long snapper Alex Ward further solidifies the unit, allowing for more advanced training and execution.
