It may still be early in the 2026 NFL season, but Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson knows his team’s Week 6 matchup against the Patriots could have a lasting impact on New York’s postseason chances.
The Patriots (3-2) are sitting behind the Bills (4-1) in the AFC East standings, but New England defeated Buffalo in Week 4. The Jets (2-3) have a chance to get back to .500 and jump ahead of the Patriots with a head-to-head victory on Sunday.
A loss in October wouldn’t eliminate the Jets, of course. Still, Garrett and his teammates recognize the importance of securing a win against a division rival, as New York went 0-6 in AFC East play last year.
“There’s a premium on this one because it is our first one [in the division],” Wilson said on Wednesday. “I don’t know how to exactly put it, but it’s a big-ass game.”

After being selected with the No. 10 overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, Wilson has produced some impressive stat lines, but he has never appeared in a playoff game. The Jets are hoping to clinch their first postseason berth since 2010.
“To put yourself in the hunt, it’s how did you stack up with the teams you play twice a year?” Wilson said. “And this is our first one.”
The Patriots, meanwhile, will try to keep building momentum following back-to-back wins over the Bills and Raiders. If New England can beat New York, it would remain undefeated against AFC East opponents.
