2.Defensive end Josh Hines-Allen has significant impact on the Jaguars’ No. 2-ranked defense in myriad ways, with Campanile on Thursday saying the eighth-year veteran “affects the game considerably in every game that we’re in.”
Hines-Allen, an eight-year veteran, has 1.5 sacks this season with a team-high seven pressures, 19 tackles, a fumble recovery, a forced fumble and a pass defense.
“Even in terms of getting hits on the quarterback, he’s affecting the game in the pass rush,” Campanile said, noting that Hines-Allen in addition to edge rushing as a defensive end also “plays a lot of outside linebacker roles” in the 3-4 elements of the defense.
“He’s not just a put-his-hand-in-the-ground rush guy,” Campanile said. “He does a ton of jobs for us. If you watch the games, there are plenty of games or plays in the game where he may be dropping out and rerouting the hell out of a route concept and the ball doesn’t go there.
“In the pass rush, he has been effective in getting hits and hurries on the quarterback. Obviously, the goal for everybody and for all our guys in the rush is to get the quarterback on the ground. There is some stuff I can do better in terms of generating those numbers, but I think he (Hines-Allen) has been really good for us.”
3.Campanile on Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud, who has six touchdowns with no interceptions in five games this season: “He’s really decisive back there, and he’s doing a great job getting the ball out quickly. He’s done a good job with their RPO game. He really has a good command of their offense. You do something long enough and you’re in a system for more than one year, there’s probably a comfortability. Their entire offense shows that and they’ve had success early in the season offensively because of that.”
