Former NFL quarterback and Prime Video analyst Ryan Fitzpatrick had a harsh review of Broncos quarterback Bo Nix’s play Thursday night against the Seattle Seahawks.

Despite Denver winning the game 17-14, Fitzpatrick said Nix was “not playing competitively.”

The 17-year NFL veteran spent more than a minute on Nix’s performance. The Broncos quarterback threw for just 107 yards on 17 completions, for a 71.1 passer rating. He hardly pushed the ball downfield and looked like the quarterback who’s drawn significant criticism over the previous few weeks.

Fitzpatrick’s full comments:

“Part of it for me is Bo Nix is not playing competitively. It’s almost disrespectful to the quarterback position how he’s playing football right now,” Fitzpatrick said.

“How is he playing?” host Charissa Thompson said.

“First of all, the guy doesn’t want to throw the ball, that’s fine, he’s throwing to the flats, he’s throwing behind, but he has no trust from his coach. He calls a screen play on third-and-8, just run up and let the clock keep going. What does he do, he throws it away, Seattle gets the ball, they have a timeout. Then, in overtime, he’s got two chances to be competitive, the last one being a designed run for him to run, make somebody miss, and get a first down for your football team.”

“Now they’re in the locker room right now, they’re excited, they won. He’s not playing competitive football right now … I can only imagine how Sean Payton feels, Davis Webb, everyone that blocks for him, he’s not competing right now and that’s something he’s hung his hat on for the last two years. I don’t know if he’s still injured, I don’t know what’s going on, but it’s not good enough. It’s effort.”

When asked what about Nix’s play frustrated Fitzpatrick, he said, “There’s no fire or passion.” He said the Broncos quarterback is taking starting in the NFL “for granted.”

“There’s a lot of guys that have played this game, that watched that game and think ‘That right there is garbage. That effort is garbage and that is not a quarterback in the NFL and we deserve better,’” Fitzpatrick said.

After the game, Nix said the Broncos’ offense is struggling to find explosive plays. He said getting a win was the most important outcome from Thursday’s contest, but also seemed frustrated by the offensive issues.

“I thought I saw the field really well, especially early when we were given opportunities to sort of be aggressive. Then as the game went on, it felt a little bit like just third downs were the key. Then every once in a while, we had an opportunity to throw it deep again. Then they were in a short Cover-2 shell, covering it deep and we had outlets with 10 yards of space,” Nix said. “So it’s just… I don’t understand why we can’t really push the ball vertically right now. Defenses are just sitting back there hanging out. We’re just going to keep running the football. Hopefully you have to find ways to get more out of it.”
