It’s been a rough beginning for Justin Herbert and the Los Angeles Chargers in the 2026 NFL season after five consecutive defeats that have made people question the quarterback and the future plans of the team. Former NFL quarterback Phil Simms has now joined the discussion about a potential trade by suggesting the Minnesota Vikings as an ideal destination for Justin Herbert. This makes things even more complicated for the Chargers since Herbert will soon be taking on the Kansas City Chiefs without three essential offensive players.

Phil Simms Thinks Justin Herbert Is Ideal Fit For The Minnesota Vikings

During a segment with Kay Adams on Up & Adams on October 16, Phil Simms was of the opinion that Minnesota can indeed be an excellent destination should Herbert decide to leave Los Angeles.

“You are a thousand percent right because he is perfect for the Vikings offense,” Simms told Adams. “Perfect. Getting back there deep, let him get it all together and rip it down the field.”

Simms did not consider the Arizona Cardinals and Miami Dolphins as potential destinations for Herbert, citing the numerous issues the two teams are having which makes them an unsuitable fit for Herbert.

That being said, there has been no talk of a trade yet. This is because Justin Herbert is still under contract with the Chargers, which means that it would need another team to be willing to pay the hefty price tag associated with trading for the quarterback.

Justin Herbert has had a disappointing season thus far. So far, he hascompleted 85 of 143 passes, five touchdowns and seven interceptions in five games.

Justin Herbert Set To Face Kansas City Chiefs Without Three Offensive Starters

It is not just Herbert who is having issues for the Chargers, as three other players that make up part of the offense have been deemed inactive ahead of the Week 6 match against Kansas City.

This includes Joe Alt, who starts at left tackle and is an essential component of the offensive line. With Awosika injured, it poses another challenge for the quarterback. Harris has also had his importance felt in the passing game by catching 15 balls for 225 yards.

The Chargers will travel to take on the Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium in the NFL on Sunday at 4:25 p.m. ET. This game is scheduled right before the team’s Week 7 bye week.

The future of Herbert is going to be decided by the developments that come about. While one bad season may not necessarily lead to trading him off, the losses keep mounting. It is just a prediction for the time being made by Simms about the Vikings, but Herbert needs to concentrate on the game at hand.
