The Las Vegas Raiders are almost ready to play the Buffalo Bills on Sunday. But first, there’s news on Saturday that star defensive end Maxx Crosby won’t like. According to the NFL, Crosby has been fined $23,882 for helmet use.
The fine came after he head-butted, or went helmet-to-helmet, with a New England Patriots player. That’s something you see happen in real time and instantly know he will be fined for. That’s especially true when you factor in how ticky-tacky the NFL has been with fines lately. They have been willing to hand out fines for anything and everything that’s extracurricular on the football field.
Maxx Crosby is regretting that now. It would be different if it were a play he couldn’t have helped prevent. An accidental helmet-to-helmet hit might have been less regrettable, because he could have prevented this play. Now, he has to pay the NFL $23 thousand.
Sure, a guy like Crosby, one of the highest-paid players in the NFL after his recent deal, probably views this as pocket change. But it could have been prevented. Then again, we know the type of player Crosby is. He plays with unmatched fire and passion. We also don’t know what the other player said to him that made him react that way.
Raiders need Maxx Crosby at his best vs. the Bills
Let’s be honest: Maxx Crosby wasn’t great against the Patriots last week. Then again, did anyone really play that well? That’s a great Patriots team that whooped the Raiders. But this is the NFL, and you’re going to play great teams. Heck, the stretch the Raiders are about to face is brutal. They’re now set to play another elite team in the Bills.
This week, they need Crosby at his best. We need to see vintage Maxx Crosby in this game, getting inside the pocket and sacking Josh Allen. They also need the edge rushers to hold contain well on Sunday. Both Allen and running back James Cook can hit the edge and go off for a big run. So, they need to make sure they’re maintaining gap integrity and staying in contain when it’s time to do that. Crosby is a guy everyone will be watching in this matchup on Sunday.
