EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) – The Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association (WIAA) released the playoff brackets for prep football Saturday.
A large number of Western Wisconsin teams have found their way into the field.
#1 seeds
Among the highlights were five teams earning #1 seeds for the tournament: New Richmond (D2), La Crosse Logan (D3), Mondovi (D6), Cochrane-Fountain City (D7) and Glenwood City (D7).
Drought busters
A number of teams also ended extended playoff droughts. Black River Falls is into the tournament for the first time since 2019. They will be an 8-seed taking on top-ranked Freedom.
Osseo-Fairchild is also into the field for the first time since 2019. The Thunder, in just their second season since returning to varsity football, will be a 7-seed taking 2-seed Shiocton.
Conference Clashes
A handful of teams will take on familiar foes in Level 1 of the playoffs, one of their conference rivals.
For a second straight week, Hudson will host Chippewa Falls. The Big Rivers Conference foes are notorious for wild, back-and-forth affairs.
In Division 7, a brand-new pair of conference rivals will face off as Dunn-St. Croix Conference newcomer McDonell travels to Boyceville.
Quest for Camp Randall
The State Championship games will take place at Camp Randall Stadium on the campus of the University of Wisconsin-Madison November 19th and 20th.
