The Denver Broncos managed to get out of their six-game gauntlet to open up the season at 4-2, which was largely seen as the best-case scenario before the season began, but it was not the smoothest 4-2 record at all.
The Broncos again needed to show their late-game heroics to reach their four wins in six games, but if nothing else, the team is 4-2 for a second year in a row and do have a ton of winnable games left on their schedule now.
Many fans would have honestly been fine with a 3-3 record to an extent. Well, while the schedule does soften up beginning in Week 7, the Broncos Week 7 opponent may honestly be a much tougher out than originally thought.
Could the Denver Broncos have a harder time than we think against the Cardinals?
The Broncos are in Arizona to face the 2-4 Cardinals in Week 7, and all the Cardinals did in Week 6 was defeat the Los Angeles Rams with six field goals. Yes, the Cardinals won with 18 points, and they needed six field goals to reach that total.
Arizona had more total yards than the Rams, went 5/15 on third down, didn’t allow a sack, punted just three times, and won the time of possession battle over LA. That game might end up being a bigger indicator of the Rams than anything else, but the Cardinals showing up in LA and taking down one of the more talented teams in football is rather notable.
It also does fit into the category of those lesser-thought-of teams acting as a trap game to an extent. While the Cardinals are still a bad team overall, that doesn’t mean they can’t win more games. Arizona does feature a player on offense in Trey McBride who could make life very tough for the Broncos defense, as this team doesn’t always contain top tight ends.
Jacoby Brissett, the Cardinals starting QB, can push the ball down the field, and if Denver isn’t going to have Patrick Surtain II or Talanoa Hufanga in this one, the Broncos could be in for a frisky game. At the end of the day, though, Denver is much better than Arizona – they out-talent the Cardinals across the board and are simply ahead of them all over the place.
And, luckily, we haven’t really seen the Broncos become victims to a trap game in quite some time. Denver has taken care of business against lesser opponents these past few seasons, and with how good QB Bo Nix is against the NFC, we might be making something out of nothing.
But you’d be lying if you didn’t at least do a double take on the Cardinals defeating the Rams in Week 6. This team simply might not be as easy an ‘out’ as we thought.
