FRISCO — Cowboys linebacker DeMarvion Overshown has been out longer than expected due to a hamstring injury. It appears the wait for his return could be coming to an end.

Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer said they’re hopeful Overshown can return after he works back into practice this week. Cowboys co-owner Stephen Jones also indicated positivity on 105.3 The Fan (KRLD-FM) when it came to Overshown’s potential return for Monday night’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Overshown was limited in practice last week and was initially listed as questionable for Sunday’s loss against the Green Bay Packers. The Cowboys then announced that Overshown had been downgraded and he didn’t travel with the team to Green Bay due to his hamstring.

“The hamstrings could be tricky,” Schottenheimer said about Overshown’s injury. “They’re tricky and you don’t know how they’re going to react, but I think we do feel really good that he’s going to be back this week and it’d be a big jump-start for us.”

If Overshown returns, he could start alongside Jaishawn Barham at inside linebacker. Schottenheimer said their positions are interchangeable. Overshown originally was the team’s green dot communicator but was replaced by Barham. Schottenheimer also complimented backup linebackers Shemar James and Justin Barron for how they played against the Packers.

Schottenheimer also said cornerback Cobie Durant is progressing toward a return. He injured his hamstring in Week 2 and hasn’t played since.

Cowboys kick return KaVontae Turpin is unlikely to play against the Eagles. He injured his ribs on the opening kickoff against the Packers and missed the rest of Sunday’s game. He was replaced by Tyler Goodson on kickoff returns and by Jonathan Mingo on punt returns.
