Meridian football coach Mike Bilina has been named Detroit Lions High School Football Coach of the Week for week eight, the Lions announced on Tuesday.
Last Friday, the Mustangs beat Gladwin 28-13 to improve to 8-0 and give Meridian its first Jack Pine Conference championship since 2015. The victory also marked the first time a JPC Division 2 (small school) team has beaten a JPC Division 1 (large school) team in crossover action.
Bilina is currently in his 14th season as the Mustangs’ head coach. He has guided MHS to a 75-58 (.564) record and eight postseason berths during his tenure, and he is also Meridian’s coordinator of student success/assistant principal.
