The Denver Broncos held on to beat the Seattle Seahawks thanks to a 53-yard field goal from Wil Lutz in overtime.

It was his 11th walk-off field goal in the NFL, and his fifth as a Bronco. He’s only missed two such attempts; one in his NFL debut against the Oakland Raiders, and the one that was blocked in Kansas City in 2024.

DNVR caught up with Lutz after his big kick.

Q: I saw you went to the Avalanche game. How was it?

Wil Lutz: Good. I love it. I’ve gotten pretty close friends with a couple of those guys, so it’s been fun to have a little skin in the game. I didn’t grow up in hockey, so it’s been fun.

Q: How have you gotten to know those guys?

Lutz: Devon Toews and I live a couple of doors down from each other. His wife’s been really good to my wife. Just getting to know them, it’s been a lot of fun for the last couple of years.

Q: What’s it like when they show you on the big screen?

Lutz: Awkward. Really awkward. I don’t know what to do. It’s always a little bit too long.

Q: It must be cool to get that appreciation, especially after a kick like that.

Lutz: I can tell you, if it didn’t go in, they wouldn’t have put me on there.

Q: Would you have gone to the game?

Lutz: Probably not. I’d probably have been hiding in a corner of my house.

Q: So many NFL games come down to a kick. What’s it like being in those moments?

Lutz: If you look at the history of the game lately, I don’t know the exact percentage, but my guess would be it’s at least 70% of games are decided by four or fewer points.

So it’s expected. Even when you miss a kick in the first quarter or the second quarter, it’s like, well, shoot, that changes the game. Teams start going, you’ve got to go for two, you’ve got to do this. It changes the game plan.
